Some states have laws where an educator cannot engage in sexual activity with a student that they are educating or under their supervision such as a principal.
But in a state like Louisiana it is a misdemeanor, and it really only is done to carry weight to the state licensing board to get your teaching license revoked or suspended to conduct a manual review of your license.
There was a teacher over a decade ago in south Lafourche that decided to put one of her 17 year old male students to the test. LPSO charged her with a misdemeanor. She pled guilty. A year later, when she tried to renew it, BESE revoked her license because of the misdemeanor and told her she could reapply in 3 years.

Some of y'all still don't get it... It's not about age, it's about the teacher taking advantage of a subordinate.
Same goes with with some businesses as well. Bosses fricking employees below them is highly discouraged in many work places.

It was a stupid act on her part but I don't see the crime and don't undertand why she was charged.
age of consent laws don't matter with teacher/student relationships at the high school level, and even many colleges have employee regulations against them. It's the boss/subordinate power dynamic that makes it illegal not the ages. Even if the kid was 18 as long as he's still a student there it's illegal.

She gave up everything she worked and studied for to get ahold of a student while she has a family at home…. I just don’t get it.

I'm not just trying to be contrarian but I still think it should be illegal. Telling teachers they can essentially have sex with their senior students and only risk a write up and at worst a firing would lead to even more problems for school districts. High school relationship drama is bad enough but now imagine if you've got teachers involved too.

Nah. Divorce her and get custody of the kids (which will happen if she pleads or is convicted). Holly Hill is a small town in a rural area, but it isn't too far from Columbia or Charleston. Ole baw needs to start over in either of these places and move on. I don't see how he ever dates again, much less marries someone else.

Probably so bc this is not just a 2 consenting adults situation but a situation where one of the people is in a position of power over the other.

Boy Scout troop leaders, Protestant preachers, Catholic priest, Mormon Church. It’s not even close to being limited to teachers. Begs the questions, do pedophiles get into these professions/positions of authority over children, or do people change once they get into these positions? I suspect with teachers, they change once being around young males with raging hormones at the same time their hormones are raging.

She’s not a pedophile per se as a 17 year old is well past puberty. She just banged somebody several years younger than her.
That said if we are worried about hot teachers banging their students the only way to absolutely prevent it is to not hire girls 30 or younger to teach high school. I’m not sure what psychological testing would accomplish other than saying yep her hormones seem to be working fine and she craves the cawk like every other girl her age.
