Shooting someone is awesome?

I understand he was convicted of a crime, but "awesome" is not how I would describe punishment.

Its bravado, hopefully, which would lead someone to celebrate the state executing a person. The only other option is simple blood lust that forgets that someone was a victim of a heinous act that set the wheels in motion for this a-hole to be executed. There is nothing exciting or glamorous or admirable about it....it is akin to picking up dog shite in public spaces....its just a shitty job that has to be done. There is nothing to celebrate and nothing at all "awesome" about the state having to execute someone....

must be awesome to the dirtbag, it was his choice , shame it only took 24 years to get it done

It is indeed awesome to some murderers and miscreants to take a life....it is never awesome when the state is forced to do it because it means someone was victimized. Convictions and punishment are not awesome nor good things....they are necessary things that are the result of someone being victimized....for convictions to be awesome the crime has to be awesome...surely very few people truly believe that convictions and punishment are awesome like a sick frick who gets a thrill out of hurting people....

I read that it’s .308 from 15 feet away. The heart area will be obliterated instantly. Not sure how many seconds it takes for a person to die from that but won’t be long.

The last person executed by guillotine in France was in 1977. His head supposedly gasped for air and tried to speak for 45 seconds after the blade fell. It was done privately because 38 years earlier they executed a man in public and the outcry was such that they started hiding it. The 1977 execution was secretly filmed and the film released within minutes of it taking place. The outcry was such that France outlawed executions in 1981.

This is why we hide it in the US. It would cease immediately if it were televised. As hateful as we like to pretend we are no one wants to watch another person die....except for sick fricks who probably deserve the same fate....

You’re right, what would really be awesome if they didn’t take so long to do it. And if they would beat him to death with a bat would be super awesome.

So who is going to do it? Who is going to beat someone to death with a baseball bat and go home to the wife and kids? Seriously, executing people takes a serious toll on the people who do it....would anyone want to live next door to someone who would beat someone to death with a baseball bat because the state told them to do it????

It is easy to be full of bravado and act like you would gladly end the life of someone who had done nothing at all to you, when push comes to shove only a handful of people can actually do it and very few of them, thankfully, enjoy it...the few who do are sick.

I’m sure this will be the popular opinion, but if you’re on the firing squad… you know the guy is a monster. And, he’s also a defenseless old man tied to a post with a sack over his head.

Those two things will be true in your head while you’re pulling the trigger and you have no idea how you’ll process that, but my guess is that the conclusion won’t be “that was awesome”

Unfortunately executions are probably necessary. They are not a positive outcome by any stretch of the imagination.....only a truly sick individual would be happy over the state ending someone's life.

convicted 1st degree murderer: guilty

Are they? For sure? 'Cause 2.35% of the people various state governments had said were guilty and must die for their crimes have been exonerated of the crimes they were convicted of. This are high profile cases which have a LOT of eyes on them that wind up trying to execute innocent people 2% of the time. That is simply unacceptable in a civilized nation and will eventually lead to the end of the death penalty in the US for good.

How it is that soooo many people will stand flat footed and say that the government is incapable of doing anything correctly EXCEPT killing its citizens is a serious mystery that needs solving......executing a citizen is the penultimate power of the state over an individual....it should be used sparingly if at all and it should certainly not be misapplied 2.35% of the time.....anyone who is ok with 2.35% has to answer what number is unacceptable? How many innocent people need to die before the sense of revenge and blood lost is surpassed by simple human compassion?

You're fighting a losing battle.

Most of these guys have no empathy.

I can't imagine having to be the one to pull the trigger here. That is not say the punishment doesn't fit the crime. It's to say it's a travesty that someone has done something so awful that now we must do the same for justice.

Also, most people on this board are genuinely closer to retarded than even an above average IQ.

I don't believe the state has the right to kill its own citizens, but I'm not going to cry for this piece of shite. Glad I'm not the one shooting him.

I have no problem with the death penalty. I do believe that there are things people do that forfeit their right to life.

But a punishment, to me it would be far worse to spend the rest of my life in a cage. I would rather be dead.

Yeah, I really hope I get through the rest of my life without committing a crime that would lead to a death sentence, but firing squad really isn’t a bad way to go. Guillotine doesn’t seem like a bad choice either.

In the truest sense of the word, and not the modern slang usage, this is indeed awesome.

this is my problem, if there's 100% proof, then they're executed immediately, no need for our tax dollars to feed them for a day.

This is the compromise I offer to those against the death penalty. Capital punishment is only used in cases where it’s 100% irrefutable, and there is a max of 1 appeal. In other cases where it’s less definitive, the maximum penalty is life in prison.

Sounds like BS. Loss of pressure would cause unconsciousness.
