Alabama is a backass state in many ways, but it has nice pockets all over the state and a decent economy.

If you remove the black belt Alabama is in the top twenty in everything. Probably higher. The Black belt is a third world nation located in the USA.

SC hasn’t been far behind, but it doesn’t have the Charlotte metro area.

Charlotte's strong financial sector will control, but there are a lot of people in upstate SC that commute to Charlotte for work.

Greenville is really blowing up too. If I had to leave Charleston, that's the first place I'd look to relocate to. A lot of young people with good jobs are heading there. It is very clean, scenic, and safe.

Or put another way, while other states spend money on infrastructure, La spends money on corporate welfare and basically for 1 declining industry.

What is LA's industry? I assumed shipping (port of NO). Oil and gas?

I live in Louisiana, but I’m retiring to the Alabama coast when the time comes.

Lot's of Louisiana folks over here in Baldwin County, a strong # being those who are in their 30's. Fairhope is the main place to move but Foley is building steam because it is so close to the beach.

YAY! More Yankees moving down here after fricking up their own states

Don’t kid yourself. Residents of these popular places are from states like Louisiana and Mississippi. Just your typical oil field baws who finally got a degree in something useful moving to more prosperous regions

If you ask 10 people in South Carolina where they’re from, 3 will say Ohio. Been that way there for a loooong time.

Don't get too uppity. Mississippi has far better infrastructure than Louisiana. It's really not even close. They also have a bit of manufacturing. Nissan has a huge plant in Mississippi. Do we have anything like that in Louisiana?

I said it shouldn’t be - I didn’t say it wasn’t.

Home sweet home. My upbringing in a 100 year old house in a black neighborhood has made me a more well rounded individual. There are some redeeming qualities. Little Miami on the Alabama river in Selma is lit

The most authentic places in South Carolina are in the black belt along I-95. Give me a juke joint in Hemingway or Allendale over the pretentiousness of Charlestonians and the Yankee transplants on the coast or in Greenville.

We've enjoyed both. Charlotte sits on the NC/SC border about 3hrs from Charleston. Charleston has a bit of the feel of old NewOrleans, with the benefit of nearby beaches.
