South and North Carolina and Alabama are top 10 popular places to move to.

Reasons are primarily jobs and inexpensive real estate relative to where people are moving from. Which is rust belt states of Ohio, Il and WI with crummy weather and no jobs and Northeastern states like New York and Jersey, Conn and Mass. More top 10 gainers are in the western states of Idaho, Colorado, Washington and Oregon and South Dakota..
SC has gorgeous beaches along the coast and lots of industry as does NC. Plus NC is strategically located. Alabama has a booming auto and aircraft mfg business with Toyota also coming and tons of beautiful, cheap building sites along side the country's largest number of river systems flowing through. Go South young man.

Seems like every state in the south is improving and attracting out-of-state residents except Louisiana.

NC has been booming for years. SC hasn’t been far behind, but it doesn’t have the Charlotte metro area. Both states have a lot of retirees and second homes.
Alabama is benefiting from Manufacturing and the Huntsville area is hot right now with its growth in technology and aerospace. Alabama is a backass state in many ways, but it has nice pockets all over the state and a decent economy.

You don’t live in Louisiana.
I have out of state rentals too but I don’t declare that state my home.

People aren't exactly flocking to Mississippi either.

YAY! More Yankees moving down here after fricking up their own states

Lots of Ohio, upstate NY, and Long Island people move to Charlotte. Charlotte is only ten miles or so from the SC border, so I’m sure their state’s numbers are boosted from those moving to Charlotte suburbs such as Ft. Mill. The difference between these people and people moving from California to Texas, is that most of these folks are conservative.

Most of the "Yankee" states mentioned in the OP rank higher than both the Carolinas, and they all rank above Alabama.

So I guess what I'm asking is, how are they "moving down after fricking up their own states" when their states of origin are statistically better?

Guy I work with was NYPD for twenty years. He has a sweet retirement/pension after twenty years and moved down here to start a second career, where taxes are much better. He’s a Republican.

Christ Alive, man. Yeah, there are shitty aspects of every state, but no one is going to lynch you. I don't think there has been any kind of lynching, anywhere, since the 70's or 80's. There's a lot more danger going to the cities than there is going to the hollers, and even then you really have nothing to worry about.
