I'm no biologist, but that shark looked like he was getting more than curious as the encounter went on. That last high speed pass he did on the diver looked rather ominous.
I'd have looked like Jesus cause I'd have been walking on water to get in that boat.

i don't think that shark would have anything to do with the diver other than maybe a bump to establish dominance
those sharks want big, fatty seals. they bite surfers b/c the board looks like a seal from below

He was free diving in shallow water. No DCS risk. Tougher spot, though- can't hide on the bottom behind a rock.

Well, I agree that the Great White was only checking him out, but they check things out by taking a chunk out of them to see if they taste good. Great Whites are highly curious, and that's how they test their curiosity.

You should have been. Bull sharks are the most dangerous shark to humans. Great Whites don't really like the taste of humans, and they typically take a chunk out of you and leave you alone to bleed out and die from there. Bull sharks don't give a frick. They smell the blood and they immediately go in a frenzy and try to eat every last morsel of you. They'll eat literally anything.

I actually swam nearby there in False Bay. At the time, I didn't know now prevalent Great Whites were in that area.

Great whites take a massive bite and then allow their prey to die. When a human is attacked there are usually other humans there to rescue them...if not they would finish of their meal.
