If there wasn't an occult infection at some point in an isolated human population, then the most likely source would probably be improper handling of sensitive samples, which could happen through a variety of means. The other possibility, select agent research, is more easily verifiable, for a very specific reason, as there are limitations on equipment and buffers. The specifics don't really matter to people when you being them up though.

There are therapeutics for it. And more research is in the pipeline.

These are all valid points. The government cannot expect the public to take them seriously on the virus when they’re allowing tens of thousands of illegal immigrants be spread out into the general population month after month. And on top of that every time you turn around you see examples of the very leaders who preach about masks, shutdowns, and social distancing only following their rules when they know the cameras are on.

But the discussion is always about a third or fourth shot of the current vaccine. There is little to no talk of development of a new vaccine.

Yep. You’re right. This is why the whole COVID situation is such a shite show. There is no better way to ferment mistrust in a group than to tell them to do something and not ask any questions.

Really, the best message from the government on vacation, masking, really the whole COVID thing would be to have no message at all past “consult with your doctor, who you know, who knows you and your medical history, and follow their advice”. Past that the politicians should keep their mouth shut on COVID.

I’d bet if they did this, the vaccination rate would be far higher and the mistrust and confusion regarding COVID would be far less.
