Little Susie is still a fricking criminal in this country.

Not a right. You so easily forget prohibition, which was a government forcing their moral beliefs onto a nation of free people.

18 to smoke

Not a right.

marijuana illegal

Another very good example of someone imparting their personal belief system onto others. Look how well that worked out.

quote:

suicide illegal (to aid or attempt)

I've never heard of anyone being charged with trying to kill themselves, but whatever.

quote:

And is the aborted child not an involved person?

No, it's a fetus.

quote:

SCOTUS even said in Roe v. Wade that the State has a legitimate interest in protecting potential human life

Human life does not = fetus

Look man, I'm not arguing for or against abortion. Personally I think it should be a last ditch effort or reserved for someone who's pregnancy poses significant risk. At the same time it's non of my business. It does not negatively impact my life in any way. Fire and brim stone is not going to rain down from the heavens.

The part that I am arguing is what makes your moral code better than someone who has an abortion? How is that you are right, and they are patently wrong?

Barf "gets" "it"

I'm not trying to say it's right or that I believe in it, but who am I to tell people what's morally right or wrong.

I don't even know what this means. I do have a point, and you are ignoring it because my first response was "Is that right?", so you tried to prove it with these stats you are so proud of. I agree with the premise of your argument, that without abortion, these stats would grow at an increasing rate compared to other races. I get that. But that does not take away from the fact that there is a separate population, adoptive parents, that are still adopting a black kid 1 out of 4 times. So while decreasing the gross number of adoptable black children by abortion would decrease the gross number of orphaned children, it would also decrease the base of kids that could potentially be adopted, which would have an effect on that 23%. There would either be less adoptions in total, or less adoptions as a percentage for that particular race.

She also had a second miscarriage of the other twin in the second trimester. But yeah, miscarriages, no matter how early, can be difficult. Particularly week 11 and after. Sorry to hear about your difficulties.

Yeah I am, but it is hyperbole to try and help you see how another person may think.

You are saying a group of undifferentiated cells are the same as a living, breathing, selfsustaining, fully developed human and it's not the case.

No I'm not, and you are proving my point that you only see this as a "when is it considered life" perspective. Why is a woman, that by what you have said, is a person not responsible enough to care for a child the only person that has a say on population control?

quote:

But sit atop your high horse and judge others while you give your money to priests and go tell him all the bad things you've done.

Does this sound like a reasonable person? Does this sound like someone who has shut down seeing an opposing viewpoint? You are making huge assumptions about those that don't agree with you.

So you don't think having an abortion is killing a live human being? At what stage do you think the child is in fact a living human?

Doesn't matter what I think, I can't carry a child. It's a loaded question because there is a specific point where a cluster of organized cells become a living being. This point is unique to each individual pregnancy. Maybe there is a way to pinpoint it, maybe there is not, I don't know. I am not a doctor.

We have to draw a line somewhere, so we draw that line at birth. It's an arbitrary line but it exists.

It's one woman making a decision. That is hardly "population" control, and yes I made that statement to emphasize my point. Growing up catholic I was strongly anti-abortion and all that. After getting a degree in a scientific field my views began to change. I just wanted to make a general statement (similar to your hyperbole) that mostly religious organizations are opposed to the pro choice movement. It's none of their goddamn business.

We are governed by law, not by moral code.

If little Susie kills her parents, that has no impact on my unalienable rights. Still doesn't stop me from having an opinion on what needs to be done about little Susie.

WTF man?!?

If someone kills someone, they most definitely impact your rights. Especially if you are the one getting killed. Can you not see this?

they are still adopted at a higher rate, as a % of demographic makeup, than any other race in the US. In other words, less desirable does not equal not desired at all.

This is just an irrelevant point to add to this discussion because no one is saying that they are not desired at all currently. The supply simply outpaces the demand by such a large degree that without abortion the rates would skyrocket to an unbelievable figure by comparison.

Consider that if abortion were illegal, there would still be more black orphans than white ones- 13% of the population accounts for 37% of all abortions, while 73% of the population (whites) account for only 34%... So the amount of black orphans grows almost equal to the amount of white orphans, but the pool of prospective adoptive parents, overwhelmingly seeking to adopt a white child, would remain unchanged. The difference is, they no longer have to settle for a baby of a race different from their own.

Without abortion you would have something like 90% of orphans being black, but because there are now more white babies to choose from, the number of black children getting adopted would shrink to an absolutely miniscule number while that population would simultaneously explode.

FYI - I had a friend jump off a bridge in high school into the river, for fun (the Bridge was 10-12 feet from the water max), was charged with attempted suicide.

No, its not. But, just because someone opposes something does not mean they oppose it for the most popular reason, or the only reason you are familiar with.

It is the very definition of population control. If no action was taken, would there be an additional human?

There's nothing wrong with population control, it's part of nature and is essential for sustainable proliferation of life.

The double edged-sword of our advanced modern society is that almost all of the natural controls have been overcome, so we must adopt artificial control through abortion and preventative birth control.

If the conversation regarding abortion were to move away from this "women's health" tripe and into the population control arena, I imagine many, many people on both sides of the issue would adopt a more nuanced stance on the topic than they have now.

Do you know how many babies are born every minute?

Wait, I'll google it... 255. Yes 255 every minute, but that one is a woman putting her stamp on population control.
