a tandem float was stopped and blocking the crosswalk and i sat there and watched three people cross over the hitch to get through them.

You can see trains stop along the river near Jax Brewery and people immediately start climbing through the cars with no idea when it will start moving again. Happens regularly.

Not sure if you’re trolling or not but...
The city that host millions of spectators to its weeks long celebration of Mardi Gras, has a near stellar record of protecting them from danger for decades. (from the parade at least)

Two freak accidents (freak / stupidity for the first one for sure) happen and you think the city needs to do something. It’s already been said the government doesn’t have to have an action for every thing that happens in its jurisdiction.

Agree netting seems like a plausible easy fix that the krews should enact themselves.

Just a thought but instead of putting up netting what about coming up with some barrier that fits around the base of the float so people couldn't pass into the tire area?

If they could get the floats detoured around the accident scene to get them to the superdome,

That’s the problem, there isn’t a detour they can just make a few changes for. These are massive floats that require a ton a space. Any alternate route has cars parked all along it, it’s just not possible to open another route on a crowd packed parade route

Have the routes seemed busier to anyone else the past few years? I know there would be some logistical issues, but would lengthening the routes some spread people out more?

Yes, they have. I think it has to do with route consolidation uptown. Everyone wants to go out and see 3 or 4 parades. Krewes want to be where the crowds are.

Yeah it’s impossible with a small parade let alone a super krew. Cars, people, cops, floats fitting under trees, power and street car lines, shite even some pot holes in NOLA could be catastrophic to those huge floats. Way to many impossible logistical hurdles.

On Canal street it is absolutely possible. With Nyx on magazine street it was not possible to reroute.

Any truth that the dude got pushed? Or was he just getting between the floats to scoop up some beads?

Reports are he slipped on beads and fell under. He should have never been close enough to the float for that to even happen

No troll. Other cities are concerned about safety and use barricades for parades. Safety is a low priority for NOLA.

Completely fricking the parade experience aside....

Those barricades will be great when someone inevitably gets crushed fighting for beads or some NOLA culture opens fire and people stampede one another
