Just had solar panels installed. Any experiences out there? The tax incentive seemed worth it. I haven't figured this damn meter yet.

I was always skeptical because, I assumed that elect. minimum rates will go to 100.00 instead of 35.00. this would really piss me off. and.....don't be surprised if this doesn't happen in the near future. if you think that elec. companies are going to lay off because of these solar panels, think again.

Seriously, why is Louisiana subsidizing these panels given our budget situation?

I don't think that they are being subsidized anymore. but, I could be wrong.

I did solar attic fans a couple of years ago. They are fantastic. With all the tax incentives. The whole thing cost me like $300. I am considering panels for the house now.

A buddy of mine just started working for Southern Solar out of Franklinton. He told me that there is absolutely no out of pocket costs for the buyer and that everything is paid once tax returns are paid out next year. Sounds too good to be true honestly

Pretty sure this is incorrect.

There's much more useless things that could be cut out of the budget. Solar is the future whether you like it or not!

if you outright buy I think you still get a good deal, they stopped giving the credits for leasing though
but be prepared for the state to take their sweet arse time in giving out that refund

This is what I got:
Typical Grid Tiered PV System w/radiator barrier
Cost $25,000
Federal Tax Credit - $7500
Sate Tax Credit - $12,500
Net cost to me is $5,000 @ 18 month interest free.

Posigen out of N.O. leases solar systems. Probably hurting pretty bad from that.

quote:He said that the unit is $25k. Federal Tax credits of 30% = $7500. State Tax credits of 50% = $12,500. The company cuts you a check for $5000 when they are installed. $25k has to be paid in one lump sum within 18 months of installation. No interest over those 18 months
Pretty sure this is incorrect.

I stand corrected. So the state credits are still in place for purchased units?
Posted on 6/11/15 at 12:52 pm to ForeverLSU02
How'd you get the $5000 back?

Yes, the tax credits apparently are soon to be diminished.

I'm having my Panels installed today from Southern Solar. The $5000 they give you is taxed as if you are an employee for them. They put a sign at the end of your road and you are told to give them 4 names that are interested in the Solar Panels. They will mail you a tax form next tax season. That is the only money that you will have to pay once you file your taxes. He said it comes out close to $1500. That's not bad at all.
