If you vote for the party that campaigns on "defund the police" and who believes that all white people are inherently racist/evil while all black people are poor innocent victims and then something like this happens, it's hard to find sympathy.
They laugh when it happens to us, and the whole "be above the fray" has not worked out for the right.
What do the police have to do with this social worker being brutally murdered?
I know what you're saying, and I don't completely disagree with your inherent point. I'm saying this case is not really the same thing.

Reading the OP, it sounds like she was an LCSW doing “in-home” mental health care with community health. That’s one of the most dangerous jobs in our profession, because you’re going into a home or to a site with someone who has severe enough mental health issues they can’t come to an office. And they’re likely to have had multiple hospitalizations.
I can't believe that sort of job exists either. My mom was offered that sort of job once, with a decent enough pay raise. She turned that down with the quickness though.

I considered applying to work with our local department as mental health personnel and spoke with staff before applying. They’re not sending SWs out on calls by themselves. They’re riding along with officers (who are also receiving mental health training) and assisting in identifying mental health issues.

And most community health corporations aren’t going to send you with someone else, it’s an individual job. I always thought it was abhorrent that they send folks out in these situations and don’t even utilize them in pairs. But a lot of that has to do with ever shrinking budgets in community health, who often get lopped in with other social service cuts.
My wife does home health, albeit nursing. She's straight up refused to enter homes without an escort before. My mom used to do home health as well, and had an off duty NOPD escort for certain neighborhoods.

One my my cousins does home health PT. He's an in-shape, mid 30s dude, and there have been times where he has been nervous entering homes in certain areas. I can't imagine a frail older woman doing the same thing in those areas and having to deal with people who are mentally fricked.

Both look exactly as expected.
RIP to a compassionate woman.

I think a lot of idealistic teachers that want to go into places like Orleans or EBRPSS (non magnet) probably haven't learned the lesson that it's impossible to help people who won't help themselves.
More importantly, how about the lesson that one of your trashbag 'clients' may kill you with a fricking axe. Or a 6 year old with a pistol may gutshot you?
You're not helping them. You're a stooge. You're being hunted.

No moral compass. Killing is fine. No God = no moral compass. You can do as you please. No consequence. Really man shouldn’t be able to punish you. Who says it’s immoral? Man? Who is he but another man. No more important than you are.

Maybe she took an axe from a fire hose station? Some fire hose stations have an axe in them which would be questionable to have in a psychiatric hospital.

I got an offer to do in-home but they would only provide a "check" at the home before sending someone in. Thanks, but no thanks.
I do feel like its a needed service for non-violent folks. A lot of in-home therapist will see folks that have developmental disabilities or who are just not physically able to attend in office.
But in most community health position (mental health) they won't provide an escort because don't want to pay for it or just flat don't have the budget for it.

I never said she had it coming dude because she certainly did not, but when you lie down with dogs you get fleas and people up there are very gung-ho about defunding police and importing double digit IQ 3rd worlders and shite like that.
If you have been up there, you know exactly what I'm talking about.
shite man have you ever stayed in Vermont for a length of time? I guarantee you they will make excuses for this axe murderer and forget the victim completely.

Build a 100 x 100 foot wall in Montana.
Drop all these animals in and let them fight it out.
No videos no nothing....no one can complain about how bad and cruel it is.
I am over these stories. Do away with them all.

Where do you suggest we put them?
We need to bring back mental institutions. You said it yourself. There's nowhere to put these people.
That said, someone who is a threat to themselves or others being placed in inpatient psychiatry is pretty standard. But like I said, Vermont probably makes it hard to lock up people for a few days for safety reasons. I know New Hampshire does. As opposed to Louisiana where it's fairly easy with a PEC.

Sounds like we are in the same field. I am a LCSW at a community mental health center in Arkansas and when I started in this field I wanted to be attached with the local PD and go out with them on crisis call. And like you i am sending people hours away for placement because our local inpatient facility with 200 beds is constant at capacity and you can just forget about getting people admitted to the State Hospital in Little Rock.

The current thing are "asylum seekers" a LOT of those up in the northeast.
People who come in for tourism etc and then refuse to leave claim that they are persecuted and get free food and housing and potentially work depending on the state while they wait for the government to approve or refuse them.

Common sense ax legislation will fix this problem. This and more regulations on evil lightbulbs and gas stoves.
