1) random crazy people always existed, they now just have a platform and you can see them
2) the media did it to themselves with their blatant bias and gaslighting. once people no longer trust, they search and can find either more unbiased sources or crazy arse conspiracy theorist sources or anywhere in between…but the media not being trustworthy drove people away in the first place. Covid has caused this to explode even faster because objectively that was a complete shite show and it was social media that helped expose blatant lies and hypocrisies (in addition to conspiracies)
3) as i’ve grown older, it’s wild how many conspiracy theories end up being true or mostly true

In the pre-internet times, nutjobs existed. They were weird, weird people with little to no social life. They were considered mentally ill by most, as they clearly didn't have the mental health to properly survive in a civil society. Crackpots, good for a laugh (think early Alex Jones).
Enter the internet. We literally gave these mentally unwell people giant bullhorns and let them loose on society, giving them outsized voices as their fricked up messages became amplified and these weirdos found a community they were able to easily connect with, commiserate with, and try to 'out conspiracy' one another.
Social media came along. These crackpots ideas were shared/retweeted/released into the mainstream. People would share these things because they were funny or disturbingly wrong.
Politicans and tech bros realized these ideas were so obscene and crazy that they received much more interaction than ho-hum news stories. Guess what they did to the algorithms? Juiced up the conspiracies! Politicans started floating the conspiratorial ideas. Those weirdos in basements now had a prominent national voice.
Covid did a number. It was a conspiracists wet dream. Keep in mind, conspiracies are only good if there's at least a nugget of truth involved. Covid was a turbo boost to conspiracists. It went SO FAR that fricking experts who studied this shite their entire lives were villainized and not believed by a large percentage of the population. This has now become what is, ostensibly, a huge anti-intellectual atmosphere here in the US. It's insane.
We're fricked. Truly.

Do I think we have devices that can help influence weather, yes. Do I think we have devices that could create or destroy a hurricane? No, and I shudder to think it's even possible, and could only imagine the power.

At this point, you could basically eat the opposite of what the government pushes and probably be healthier.

Social media is made of mostly of idiots and those having to refute the idiots.

I know people who genuinely believe they used technology to alter the path of the hurricane so it would flood north carolina and they could get lithium deposits or some dumb shite

Cloud seeding is done on a regular basis. It is well documented. I hope you aren't doubting the existence of cloud seeding.

It used to be 10 thousand angry lesbians were just 10 thousand angry lesbians. Now it's a movement, and corporations/government feel the need to swallow those movements' ideas wholesale.

Charles (OP) says trust the experts so many times a day Kamala is embarrassed for him.

Odd...
I haven't found many people that believe in "conspiracies " that have a lick of sense.

Examples help arguments. Please expand so we know what you are referring to.
Are you talking the "misinformation" on seed oils, refined sugar, processed foods etc...?

Because they repeatedly lied.
Youre pretty gullible.

Governments have long tried to manipulate the weather. Look at the HAARP program etc. and do some research on the topic. You will be surprised. Or not

OP is lumping a LOT of people into one group. We can't question the government anymore? We should trust everything the main stream media says?
You can obey everything the government and msm tells you if you like. Enjoy the outcome.
