The mayor is just soooooo WRONG with this typical/NO tangible RESULTS bulls$#@ ! proper upbringing/nuturing/disciplining/ teaching self-responsibility etc.etc.etc. How stupid is our media/legislatures etc. to do the same thing over and over again ? Check/reign in the idiotic welfare state...THAT is the beginning of solving the issue of feral people on the streets !!

I’m pretty sure it’s there have been multiple shootings at LA Fitness locations in throughout the Atlanta area recently
I’m legitimately worried that pick up basketball is going to be banned/criminalized throughout the country at this rate

VaHi, Inman Park, Midtown, all traditionally "Safe" expensive intown neighborhoods, no longer true. Expensive still true. Safe not true. Been going down hill for a while. If you are the kind of person who is in bed by 10:30 every night it may not be as noticeable. My good buddy lived in Inman for years, we always felt safe walking to Little 5 or North Highland if we were in groups, but nobody does that anymore because there is a better than 10% chance you'll be mugged, and the cops will not even stop the shady looking criminals anymore, they will stop the white hipsters and tell them to get their arse in an Uber.

Please stop posting. North Highland in Inman Park and in Virginia Highland is absolutely slammed with people walking, at restaurants, at bars etc and nobody is getting mugged. APD is all over Inman Park, Virginia Highland, Poncey Highland, Old Fourth Ward and Morningside. Buckhead is a huge crime hub but that is over 5 miles away from these neighborhoods. Is city of Atlanta perfect? Nope. Those neighborhoods are as safe as anywhere. If you want to talk about areas that aren’t safe to walk focus on SE and SW Atlanta. NE Atlanta is like Mayberry compared to the rest of Atlanta.

Dickens at least seems to be earnestly caring as opposed to KLB who spent most of 2019-2020 trying to become Biden's running mate.
Dickens is a fricking idiot. Not setting a high bar saying he is better than KLB. Bill Campbell was better than KLB also but I don’t want him as Mayor again.

“On the front end, it is events like this, midnight basketball, summer youth program, things like that, deter folks from getting involved in crime to begin with,” Dickens said. “That starts right here.”
because midnight basketball has without fail, completely eliminated all crime in the areas it was implemented

I live here. There are people out at the main commercial strips of Inman Park and Virginia Highland on North Highland Ave until 2AM Thursday to Sunday. It’s perfectly safe. People everywhere.

Oh we have our Democrat shite holes as well. They all have one thing in common.

Is she telling us without telling us that it is one racial group behind the high crime?

I dont have a problem with Dickens so far. He is a change-up to atlanta politics. That could be a good thing.
More city programs isnt a bad thing either.
Will it have any effect on crime?
Who knows.
Pair it with community policing and actually get a DA to do the job, and atlanta could possibly change the momentum of crime since 2020.
I don’t live anywhere near Atlanta and know nothing about their new mayor, but community policing has been a failed strategy for decades. It doesn’t work. I’m not saying it’s not good for people to have some type of relationship with the police, but riding around giving out candy and doing TikTok dances does absolutely nothing.
Fully staff APD, give them the backing to do whatever needed to stop the crime, and pair them with a DA/judges that will throw everyone in jail and you’ll see Atlanta quickly clean up its act.

Are they walking to and from during darkness or ubering?

ATL puts their crime stats up on a map daily.
Let's do Inman Park.
Let's set the parameter for the month of May.
A bunch of stuff comes up.... but some of it is in what I would call Little 5, so let's not include those.
9 car break ins
1 assault
1 motor vehicle theft
4 reported vandalism (different sites than the car breakins, totally separate incidents)
1 "Swindle/Confidence Game" lol
That's just 1 month in 1 posh in-town neighborhood full of million dollar+ homes.
But you got me, no reported murders, rapes, or muggings during that one month period in this tiny little neighborhood.
If I lived in a 2.3 million dollar house in a neighborhood with those statistics, I wouldn't be bragging about how nice it is.
That's all I'm saying.
You can run the same numbers for ViHi, Edgewood, Grant Park, et al.
The city is a shithole, guy. And it used to not be this bad. It really didn't.

I backed up the map for the year 2022 so far.
Inman Park.
Too many vehicle breakins to count, so I'm not going to count them.
We have an armed robber of the donut shop on Edgewood Ave.
We have an aggravated assault at Krog.
We have several other simple batteries scattered around the neighborhood.
We have a murder at N Highland on the edge of Freedom Park.
Do you want to see the stats of my neighborhood during the same time period?
This is the "Safe" neighborhood yall, this is the "good" neighborhood in Atlanta. Getting the picture?

Edgewood is a crappy neighborhood not on par with the others. Grant Park is south of I-20 so you absolutely get that kinda stuff in those neighborhoods it’s why I don’t live in them. Inman Park and Virginia Highland are perfectly safe. Nobody cares about petty crimes. I’ve been here over 17 years and haven’t had one single smashed car window, car break in, no home invasions etc.
is city of Atlanta perfect? Nope. But it has lots of advantages and I like the way the demographics are trending here vs places in Gwinnett and Cobb which are turning into absolute cesspools. The NE quadrant of the city is perfectly safe day or night. It’s why this part of the city has all the amenities and nice stuff and people want to live here. It’s not SW or even SE Atlanta that still deals with all the violent crime.

Donut shop was robbed at like 4AM with nobody there. It was empty. It wasn’t an ‘armed robbery’ as there was no victim and they took an iPad.
