re: So, where would you be happy with regards to gas prices?

I've been saying that if we could get oil prices to stabilize at around $60-80/barrel and gas to stabilize around $2.50, everyone could be happy and prosper. Of course, it's impossible to stabilize commodity prices, but I agree that oil & gas professionals could stay afloat and make a decent living, while the American public wouldn't feel like they were being gouged every time the go to the pump.

As low as possible. I don't feel sorry for anyone. You either make smart decisions or you don't. If you don't, you eventually face the circumstances and it's nobody's fault than your own.

You may not be wrong about oil companies being irresponsible with their cash, but the idea that the spending habits of oilfield workers is substantially more irresponsible than those in any other field is ridiculous. Losing your job in any field will put a financial strain on you and your family - your ability to save just defers how severe that strain will be.

2-2.25 is a good price.

As for the OP, I'd like gases to continue to be priced as they are in the free market. I'm pro O&G, so I don't actively root for gas/oil to go down, but I'm not going to advocate for some happy-medium.
I just hope that if/when gas goes up, people will remember that the same free-ish market that drove them down is at fault again. The silver lining of this downturn should be that people will give up on the idea that O&G companies are out to frick over the public just to line their pockets. If they could manipulate the market like that, surely they wouldn't let something like this happen in the first place.

People aren't smart. The same ones clamoring for cheap oil & making truck repo jokes were the same ones crying about collusion and profits 2 years ago and will be the same ones crying when oil gets more expensive.

I don't care what gas prices are, I just want oil at $85 a barrel

GTF off of your high horse. There are a miniscule amount of people in ANY given field that have adequate savings to last 12-18 months of little to no income. No one is asking you to pay any more than what the market dictates, but that doesn't mean you have to be holier-than-thou when shite swings in your favor and against those in the industry.

Moving between $1.80 to $2.20 based on the time of year would be fine with me. When it gets above $2.50 I start to really dread getting gas.

Anywhere between 2.00 and 2.50. It's affecting the economy negatively. I pay less than 40 to fill up now. I wouldn't mind paying 50 to help everyone out.

Why is it that no other industry bitches about the market price for their products? Louisiana residents are getting arse raped on the price of milk at around $3.75-5.00 for a gallon of cow lactation. It's cheap and easy to extract, yet you are paying more per gallon for that shite than dinosaur juice from millions of years ago.
I never pay more than $1.99 for milk in Colorado. You don't see midwest milk producers bitching about the low price of milk here. You also don't see tractornuts on their estates.
But to answer the question, I'd be fine with gas being free. Along with the auto industry, O&G is the only other industry where I've seen the employees bitch this much about a declining market.

Then you shouldn't mind paying $8.00 for a loaf of a bread. While we are at it, let's increase the price of American made cars, because at the end of the day, we don't mind paying more to help everyone out in all other industries, right?

$2.50
I'd be paying closer to 3 because my car requires premium
