It's actually not. It's a fact of human immune systems and how those systems decrease in effectiveness as we age. Coronavirus is a new virus. It attacks the body in a different way from the various flu strains. No one has built up an immunity to this virus. The young people being exposed to it now will be better prepared for re-exposure in subsequent generations of this "cold."

No, it actually is.

Did you serious type all that common knowledge generalizations as if it as a germaine point?

This strain of virus appears to target ACE2 receptors as it’s cellular interaction/entry points. It’s found in many cells in the body, but this virus seems to only care about epithelial cells in pulmonary tissue.

Surface expression of ACE2 increases with age.

So yes, while what you said is correct, it is also compounded that it is biochemically more virulent in older hosts by having a higher probability of hitting a receptor site and spending less time in the immune shooting gallery outside of the cells.

As a result, while mortality does slope upward with age for flu, in coronavirus that upward slope rate is nearly double that of flu, resulting in a far, far higher final number.

Tell me what you’re doing go curb inner city crime? You only give a frick because it COULD affect someone you know personally.

Strawman

If you want it use inner city crime as an example. You would be saying inner city crime isn’t a problem. I would be saying it is. Neither of us would be doing anything to fix it.

I can make money off of puts too. Also, my business thrives in a down economy so it would be smart of me to cheer this on actually but I just don't see the mass devastation you all are pumping and cheering for.

What's about that? It's true.

ETA: Do you not think that there are some businesses that thrive in a down economy? Are you that naive?

Says the guy trying tug on heartstrings using guilt trips.

Had no idea facts were "cringe" but OK.

I will let you go back to your hysteria and creating panic. Don't buy all of the toilet paper, though. Old people might need some too.

I’m not even saying I believe that, but you are just slapping a label on that statement because you don’t agree with it.

Anyone who pushes an insanity like that is selling you something.

You are intelligent. How do you not see that?

I mean, even if you increase the number of deaths in China, it doesn’t even come to that.

Five hundred thousand deaths in America?

Come on.

That is panicking.

Again, this is largely because it's a new virus.

You have anything to back up the claim of either SARS or MERS getting a more shallow mortality slope over time?

For clarity, the ratio between mortality of young vs old, NOT overall mortality rate.

I have some spare acreage I am not using. I might apply to make it a cemetery and go sell some plots while this panic is going on. Maybe give a COVID-19 discount.
