I think even doing that is good for them. They are selling something rather than asking for handouts and it goes into their Scout account to pay for anything related to it. If you go to Academy and buy some tents or hiking shoes they can use their Scout money on that for instance, and to pay for camp etc. So it teaches them to pay their own way and to do it through work rather than handouts, not bad lessons imo.

And I know their position on gays ruffled some feathers, but in out time in it the topic never even came up. It's only an issue if you want it to be, otherwise it's a pretty great program.

We stand outside of stores selling popcorn as a fundraiser to assist scouts pay for their summer camps and other events. Girl Scouts have cookies...Boy Scouts don't. We also make and sell jambalaya plates.

Guessing that the OP was never a scout. Otherwise, he would understand why this is being done.
