So surreal being born in mid-80s, seeing the US in its prime and now watching it implode

Coming of age in the 90s the US seemed like the pinnacle of human civilization. Everyone seemed to more of less have a positive attitude and it felt like the good times would last forever. Now it’s 20 years later and everything is imploding. Literally burning to the ground. Surreal experience living through this time period.

Turn off the TV and go outside. It’s not that bad.

Well the eagle's been flyin' slow
And the flag's been flyin' low
And a lotta people sayin' that America's
fixin' to fall
Well speakin' just for me
And some people from Tennessee
We've got a thing or two to tell you all
This lady may have stumbled
But she ain't never fell
And if the you frickers don't believe that
You can all go straight to hell
We're gonna put her feet back
On the path of righteousness and then
God bless America again

Glad I was at least born in the 70's, this country has been different since around 2000.

Uhhh, what year do you think the Rodney King riots happened?

I was born in 1960. Just take a guess at what I’ve seen.

So right. The overreaction of people is astonishing to see. Paid agitations raising hell in liberal states where their shenanigans are tolerated. Let them go at it. It will pass as did the riots in the 60’s. They eventually realize no one cares and ease on back into life. Just be patient.

Because nothing ever happened in the 90s.

The problem today is that you hear about every little thing and its up to the media whether or not they turn it into a big story.
What about the L.A. riots in 1992? (an election year BTW).

The 90s were the peak of human civilization but .....
Instant access to information and the abundance of data available in real time alters how we perceive the world and has a secondary effect of turning people into emotional lightening rods incapable of regulating their reason.
In all likelihood, all of the underlying issues today existed in the 1990s, it’s just that very few people knew about these issues when they occurred.

maybe this will spark a '65-'75 type run in music

I’m in the same age range, and the worst thing I can remember from the 90s was the president got a bj in the Oval Office. I have no memory of Rodney king.

Born in the mid 80’s means you were around 5-15ish during the 90’s.
The 90’s weren’t the pinnacle, you were just too young to realize how the world is/was
ETA: Pinnacle was likely sometime before Boomers started getting into leadership roles. At worst, they’re the worst generation. At best, they raised the worst generation.
Hopefully once they start dying out, the country can pick back up again
