Oh he knew. Don't think he didn't.
Like so many politicos on all sides of the discourse, he's a narcissist and power-hungry. He perceived a real advantage for himself and his political/power ambitions by making news with the statues, and, in the process, angering the segment of the population he angered. That gave hims "credibility" with "his" side.

When his candidate lost, and his desired path was closed to him, it was time to "stick it" to his opponents.

So now museums are off limits for "racist" statues too?

One of the biggest attributes/problems of mental health and addiction is deflection. Blaming others for your problems instead of taking responsibility for them and owning up to them so you can identify that problem and fix them. These people are sick. Ask any counselor and they'll tell you these people are sick.

There's a map in LSU's Hill Memorial Library that shows all of the slave owning plantations from the 1800s ... my family's plantation (and the land I grew up on) is on there.

Maybe we can rename MLK day to "we kill each other every day and don't give a shite about it but want to blame everyone else for our self made, community problems so let's take everything down to deflect from our own problems" day. Too long maybe?

George Washington and his wife circumvented abolition laws in Pennsylvania in order to not have to free slaves.

Most of them do this for a living. If they stop, they won't have a job.

How do y'all keep falling for this year old non-story rebranded to make it seem like it is current?

Even some of the "smart" posters have passed this bullshite right on down.

Is it really that easy?

This continued logic is perplexing to me. I don't give a shite about this particular group of flawed individuals that people have unnecessarily demonized, but don't touch my group of flawed individuals that people have unnecessarily demonized.

It's almost getting to a point where all of the "normal people" will lay low for the time being and then one day, something will happen and that will be the straw to break the camel's back and all hell will break loose.

It happened. We elected Trump.

It renewed my faith in this country.

Not to give you the satisfaction or anything - but if you were a statue I think the entire OT would want you torn down, melted, and turned into bullets used to shoot people who think like you.
