I just think it's hard to believe a sweet shelter that openly accommodates the ability to freely enjoy and engage in all of that doesn't attract a lot more such people from places that aren't so accommodating. Seems, as Slow alludes, this may have been the case in other cities with similar set ups.
Hey, I'd love nothing more than for you (and Mitch) to be completely correct and this a actually solves something. I'm still quite skeptical, though, and will believe it when I see it.

It's right by Bridge House as well. maybe some of these folks will look to get into treatment for their drug addiction/alcoholism.

Other cities have done it.
And you think this new facility is some kind of prison or something where they have to stay? It sounds like a place where they can wander to in the evenings after hustlin' and pandhandlin' all day.

Great location for this "low barrier" sex offender concentration camp. At least the new residents will be able to walk across the train tracks and panhandle closer to the Superdome and New Orleans Arena.
Also this is a great location because the Morgue is essentially across the street so when we hit the low barrier residents crossing Eahardt Blvd at night EMS won't have to carry them far. Saves the city gas money.

Under the bridge is actually preferable to doorways in the CBD/Warehouse district; but we should be doing everything we can to make their lives more difficult in NOLA rather than building a place to ensure they stay here.

I have no idea. What do you think? What drew them to Nola in the first place?
Just wondering where this population base is going to all of a sudden come from and what Nola would offer that these real go getters in life couldn't find closer.
SF does have a homeless problen, but their population and the population near them is astronomical in comparison

No my fricking problem. Sorry for your troubles but keep your hands out of my wallet. If I feel so inclined, I'll give to charity but several hundred congregated homeless crack addicts doesn't sound like a good use of my tax dollars.

Except it is your problem. It leads to other problems like crime, while also being unpleasant for those that live there, that you end up paying for anyways.
Need to know a lot more about this before judging it.

And if that is the driver, it's already there.
Houston has an enormous homeless population. Most cities do.
Easier to get drugs in cities.
I just don't think a homeless center or program is going to drive people from other big cities
