We don't know how bad yet. But it’s spread to his liver. He’s 61 and my idol. We’ve been very fortunate as my family (Up until now) has been very healthy.

Todays pretty much been the worst day of my life. He’s hopefully gonna be admitted to MD Anderson next week for a biopsy on his liver and i guess chemo. Im sure there are some posters here with similar experiences and I could very much use some positive feedback and OT prayers for my family. Thank you and God bless

I’m not a big religious person but my GF is and is slowly making me pray more. Pray for results, if the results are bad, Spend time with him doing everything y’all have ever talked about. Cancer isn’t a death sentence but it can be an excuse to do everything you and your dad have ever talked about.

I don’t have a great relationship with my dad but attempting to mend it. For Father’s Day I bought a trip that we have literally talked about for 20 years. Praying for you and your dad.

Don’t mean to be a dick, but welcome to men.

No matter the results, take it as a chance to be closer to your dad. No one will be here for forever. You still have many opportunities to make memories that will last forever. Again, I am praying for you but look at the bright side.

So sorry to hear.

As a hospice nurse, there’s been some positive studies done on alkaline diets that supposedly cancer can’t grow in that PH.

It primarily involves a major lifestyle change of a strict diet of plant-based, locally fresh/nutrient-packed, and uncooked (not even steamed). Juiced, blended or eaten whole. No added/processed/inorganic table fats, sugars, or salt. The idea is that if your immune system has all the nutrients it needs to defend itself, it is the best physician and will not only arrest or reverse cancer, but all diseases simultaneously. It suggests a nutrient deficient body is what allows diseases to develop. But it is a major daily commitment to that lifestyle.

I think it’s a hopeful option worth researching.

Chemo has some success, but it is also a no-guarantee risk as it is a toxin you are putting in your body which can damage healthy cells while trying to kill the intended cancer cells. Radiation is just that. It burns away cancer cells and good ones in the way. I can tell you, I get chemo & radiation treated patients routinely here at the hospice.

Best wishes.

Praying. My mom according to the doctors has beaten cancer for the second time. First time was colon cancer about 18 years ago and this time she had some lymph nodes in her neck that were cancerous that they removed about a month ago. Radiation is really rough on her at the moment but she’s making it through. Praying for your dad that he’s able to beat this terrible disease. Also praying for you and your family for strength during these tough times.

There is no such thing as a good cancer but I think he has a better chance with colon cancer then some other types. Medicine is so much improved now. I will add him to my prayers. We all hope for the best.

Prayers sent. My mom is in her second go-round with breast cancer in Houston. MD Anderson is the cancer machine. If you are anywhere in the world, with unlimited resources and you find out you have cancer - you go to MDA. It’s been 2 1/2 years for her since her original doctor gave her 6 months to live.

Chemo is a bitch. He’s going to have some bad days. Keep him looking forward to the “next” thing - Thanksgiving, kid’s birthdays, Christmas, etc. Keep him fighting.

Not sure where you learned that, but the alkaline diet and it’s alleged impact on cancer growth is incredibly inaccurate and not sound medical advice.

The American Institute for Cancer Research says: ”large, well-designed clinical trials on the effectiveness of the claims made for the alkaline diet on slowing cancer growth are lacking. Our acid-base balance is well regulated – blood pH is tightly controlled normally by the body between 7.35 and 7.45. If our pH becomes too acid or alkaline, that could be life threatening and can cause serious health problems”.

MD Anderson also disagrees and says: “The alkaline diet is based on the theory that eating certain foods can change the body’s acid levels, also called the pH levels. There’s no way the foods you eat can alter the pH level of your blood. The body’s pH is a very tightly regulated system.[i] If you change your diet, there’s no way you could ever eat enough that it really impacts your blood.

I’m so terribly sorry to hear this. I just said a prayer for your father and your family and will keep him in my prayers.
He’ll be in great hands at MD Anderson. I wish your dad and family nothing but the best possible outcome. Keep us posted on his progress if you can.

Not the place to argue, but the point was not to change your blood ph, because you can’t, the body regulates it. But the same alkaline diet that changes your saliva and urine ph, is the diet that has countless success testimonials and nutritionist studies that cancer is reversed or arrested by giving your body the essential nutrients to defend itself.

It wasn’t medical advice. It was clearly put as an option for him to research.

Again, I see “countless” chemo and radiation treated patients in hospice. Two here tonight. I haven’t seen one patient in my 5 years here with a terminal disease that was on a nutrient rich plant based diet. I simply suggested it is something for him to research.

I’m an Oncology RN and I can tell you, tell him to stay positive and don’t listen to what MD says about how long he has to live. No one knows but his maker and positive attitude has so much to do with his survival! Best wishes

You work in hospice. They patient is dying. Why would anyone give pseudoscience smoothies to people who are knocking on heaven's door?
