They and the government have had ample time to prepare. Imposing restrictions on the populace by the government on behalf of private hospitals because of their failures I disagree with.

They moved mountains to get a vaccine available in a miraculous turnaround time. The vaccine reduces the chances of getting sick enough to require hospitalization exponentially.

The bottom line is that if the majority of people went out and got the vaccines as soon as they were available, we wouldn’t be in this position. Thank you for getting yours. But over half the state hasn’t gotten a vaccine.

The failure doesn’t lie with the government this time. The 55-60% of this state that has chosen not to be vaccinated against all logic and reason are those who’ve failed. My issue with your post is that you assigned failure and cynicism to the medical community when the populace hasn’t done their part on the whole.

Had a whole year and then the re-openings and yet we couldn’t get more beds?

They make far more money from elective procedures than they do from covid. They are having to pause a lot of those if not all when they reach this type of capacity with covid patients.

Covid patient overflows are not financially beneficial for hospitals compared to their normal course of business.

Myth busted. Get a vaccine.

This! 100% Hospitals do not make money on COVID. Covid cases are the most expensive of all and reimbursement just isn't that much more. For insurance payers, it's not more at all.

But everybody here seems to be a hospital CFO (oh, yeah, I actually am!)

This was from a week ago:
“Ochsner’s system-wide vaccination rate is 61%. According to CEO Warner Thomas, over 90% of physicians have taken the vaccine.”

You read like a broken record. We know. Coming here and talking down to people isn't going help your cause. And forcing everyone to wear masks again is definitely not going to help.

Oh besides all of the government officials early on saying they wouldn't get the vaccine. I mean that's not on the government at all.

Democrat politicians saying they wouldn't get the vaccine and now democrats not getting the vaccine is totally not on the government.

My assigned failure and cynicism to the medical community has a lot to do with their influence over government and lack of preparedness which is leading to renewed mandates.

Would like the media to ask a couple questions of these hospital directors:

How were you so unprepared for this increase in hospitalizations given the surge in hospitalizations last summer coupled with the delta variant this year?

How many beds are currently occupied by patients hospitalized with covid versus because of covid.

Have you changed your admission policies for patients since the last wave- if so, how?

There’s over 50 patients in the ER right now where I’m at. There are usually less than 15. The nurses are understaffed and overwhelmed.

This was before Covid.

Anyone know medreps? What’s the deal these days getting in? No go altogether? Goodbye packages and keep the young talent? I can’t trust the cafe , if you follow me. This seems like a wet dream scenario if you’re looking to get out. I dunno. Somebody’s a rep for a company. What’s the deal these days

It honestly don't matter how many actual beds you got when their are no nurses left to use them. Where I work, we are not doing well at all. Opening up these makeshift covid units without staffing and stretching us with some ridiculous ratios is not safe at all imo. I'm hoping this crap calms down soon. We are increasing still at roughly 20 covid patients a day. The health system cannot sustain that at my location.

BTW if I see a fellow nurse post one more tic toc video, I'm gonna lose it. Makes us look like a joke when most of us are working our arse off to get these people proper care.

I hear ya man. The only thing I can tell you that I agree with from the government is to get your vaccine. I been working on the covid floor and I'd say that roughly 95% of the ones we get right now are unvaccinated. The ones we do get that had the vaccine do better and go home after a few days. Take that info as you will. I cannot tell anyone to get the vaccine as it's their body.

I totally get your mistrust from the government as I have my doubts on most of their recommendations too. The mask thing should be a citizen's choice. Basically if you are old or have some preexisting co morbidities, then i suggest you wear it, otherwise its up to you.

As for shutting the economy down......no. We cannot afford that again. If only our "LEADERS" used a more common sense approach to all of this, we would be much better off.

Let me know what ya think tgrgr00.

Yeah looks like every hospital in jax now has been overrun with new covid patients. Looks like we headed back to lockdowns and mask again if this keeps up. Kids headed back to school in a few weeks. We all know kids are germ magnets so they will be bringing everything back home.

The populace didn’t secretly fund a Covid bio weapons program in communist China and release it upon the world. ESAD fascist.
