When it comes to U-Verse, they love to continue charging you after you've cancelled your service and then continually give you the run around during the billion times you call to complain thereafter. This has happened to me and multiple people I know.

Just get insurance on the phone and never upgrade again.

When I want a new phone, I frisbee that fricker at the wall.

I'm in the same boat. This November, my 2-year contract is up and they want me to pay outright for a new phone and, of course, want me off of the grandfathered unlimited.

I'm thinking about just switching to Straight Talk which is cheaper and can use the AT&T or Verizon towers. I'll lose the unlimited though...

Unfortunately they're all crooks. I left att because they were crooks and I'm now with Verizon and they're crooks too. Nature of the cell industry.

Exactly. I find it comical that so many are ardent supporters of Verizon and bad-mouthing AT&T.

Way-Way back in the day with land phone, moved from AT&T to Sprint and the same occurred. After 8 mos, as I recall, finally ceased. So turned off by this, resisted cell phone until 1998. Will not deal with monthly plans, only use Tracfone. No problems whatsoever over last 16 yrs.

Pay once a year and end up with carry-over minutes to the next year. Of course not a heavy user.

I guess I'm crazy for expecting this. I've been paying a built in subsidy in my bill for years which is fine but seems like the old bill should be backed off for the subsidized amount once I'm paying monthly for a new phone in full.

They want both.

Just terrible.

Question for anyone who has a grandfathered unlimited plan and understands it.
Say I'm grandfathered unlimited but I never go over 20 Gigs. Would it be more beneficial to drop the unlimited and just get the 20 Gig data plan or is it more beneficial to stay with the unlimited? We're talking price point.

They want to get paid the subsidy for my old phones and get paid in full for a new one.

Just terrible.

Call your bank and report it as a fraudulent charge. They'll quit. And give you your money back.

Sounds like you're one of the few people who got the new(ish) lower prices while still having a subsidized contract, otherwise you'd get a $15/$25 discount for switching to the Next Plan.

Do you even inflation bro?

And in any case, the price was never locked in.

You weren't really charged more in the old model.

That was an opportunity cost in profits they look to lock you in.

In the past, they felt that taking that hit in profit was useful compared to the value of locking you in.

They feel it's more of a seller's market now.

I have Sprint and they now offer monthly lease option plan for phones. They try to push it as it seems.

However, because I have been a long customer and I have an older plan, I can buy a subsidized phone for considerably less than leasing it, providing I agree to another two year agreement, which I will do when the Google Pixel XL is released.

Sprint's coverage area is not nearly as good as Verizon or AT&T's coverage, however it has improved recently and I didn't lose service at all during the recent flood. They are working to make their network better and for me, it has been very reliable. I like unlimited and no data throttling. And that's enough to keep me with Sprint.

Ive been doing the same Scoop. Looks like Best Buy is still offering the 2 year plans. I'm switching from AT&T to Verizon and saw it.

Maybe so. I thought the emergence of Sprint as a third option that was undercutting them was making AT&T and Verizon play nice but AT&T is worse than I've ever seen it. Even customer retention told me to basically GF myself.

Yeah I just buy a phone and use a pre paid service. I have a Skype number for work and I hate talking on the phone I might use 50 minutes a month and no more than 200mb a month not worth the hassle of a contract. Plus I'm a programmer and build mobile apps and I got like 15 phones in my house to test mobile responsiveness and to stressful test apps we build in real environments. Not getting a contract every time I buy a phone.

It took me over a year after I cancelled my Uverse account in Houston for them to stop trying to bill me. After they continued to try to bill me, I had my credit card removed from my account. The following 8-9 months, I received a bill each month for the first amount plus the additional months added. It was one of the most frustrating things I have ever had to deal with in my life. Each month, I would call and they would say they corrected the error..only to receive another bill the next month
