There was absolutely no support or even a peep for taxes on amazon, and then suddenly in like 2 days it's a bill and passed.

For New Orleans shoppers, the change means you'll be paying up to 10 percent more once you complete an order: An Amazon purchase will now include the state's 5 percent sales tax as well as up to 5 percent in city sales taxes. Orleans Parish charges a 5 percent general sales tax, though that drops to 4.5 percent for food and drug purchases.
Jefferson Parish has a 4.75 percent general sales tax and a 3.5 percent tax rate for food and drug purchases.

I need the book ASAP, and nobody around here has it (would still have to pay sales tax). Paid for it this afternoon, and will get here Thursday

This is the way to avoid paying tax on Amazon. If you buy directly from "Amazon.com LLC" then you will have to pay tax.....but....if you purchase from a 3rd party on Amazon it is up to that particular 3rd party if they charge you tax or not ( I have found that most don't)

I need to look into that. How many 3rd party stores are on Prime?

Why would you pay any more or less than the local sales tax?
Posted on 2/1/17 at 7:08 am to stlslick
How do they check where you live to tax you? By shipping address / banking and mailing address or your ISP? Why can't I just VPN?
What about visitors from other countries that visit LA and purchase something on Amazon, do they have to pay?
