Lafayette airport is reporting "unknown precip." That usually means sleet or mix

It's sleeting over here in West Baton Rouge Parish.

And there it was...gone.

It stopped before it got started good. I was hoping to see a few flakes.

There's a purple and pink patch on the radar over Lafayette right now. Check it out.

that doesn't mean it's actually sleeting, it just means the radar algorithm thinks it is.

Not sure how far he is from the airport where it's probably sleeting/mix

Exactly

in situ obs are observations taken from inside the affected area (usually on the ground). I'm looking at airports mostly because that's the easiest for me to call up, but there are some other sources.

Calling for up to 14 inches of snow in Norfolk. I didn't think it would be that bad till I found out Jim Cantore is on his way here. So now Norfolk is screwed.

would not be surprised. You're pretty close to the middle of our 10-15" contour

So, it appears my hopes and dreams are smashed for tonight, right? No chance Lafayette gets any?

Is that the mountain behind the Phoenician?

Camelback mountain? I think so(can't see the notorious "hump" to be sure). Could also be McDowell mountains or Squaw Peak.

I just drove by the Phoenician and wondered how much a spa day there would cost. I've never actually been inside the Phoenician. Just always drive past it every time I go to the Biltmore area.
