I think the honest truth is that the term millennial is flawed. They've taken maybe the fastest moving few decades in human history and tried to shoehorn everyone into it. When the dust settles, I think we'll at least recognize subsets of millennials, if the term even survives.
The term totally ignores the unprecedented technological leaps in such a short amount of time and how that makes for vastly different upbringings just from being born say, 5 years (let alone 10 or 15) apart from each other. Then say we were both born in 95. If you're from Brooklyn and I'm born and raised in rural Montana, I'm probably not matching your instagram presence.
It's just too imprecise.

Social media has made little narcissists out of everyone, and it isn't just a millennial thing. I am pretty sure I have friends on Facebook who have more photos of themselves taken in the past year than I have taken of me throughout my entire life.
I view Facebook as the phonebook of the internet. I maintain a presence there, and it's nice to connect with people you haven't seen in a long time. I use Messenger for private chats with friends, but I rarely ever post any status updates.
I have a very basic LinkedIn profile as well.
I may one day delve into Twitter because you can learn so much from it. I don't do Instagram, Pintrest, Snapchat, or any of that other BS.

Agree on Facebook. I really don't like it, but it has the widest reach.
Twitter is invaluable to me. It's run by terrible people, but it's just an amazing source of real time information.
I like Instagram because most people I follow don't litter it up with total bullshite. I get to see what I want to see - the occasional picture of someone's cute kid, people on their travels, a deer someone shot, a new house someone bought, etc.

basically how they break down for me
FB = family/friends/neighborhood
Insta = businesses, interesting people, etc
twitter = news
