If Smith said that he had a gun and was reaching for something in his vehicle, it CAN be self defense. None of us know enough yet to categorically state it as a fact, either way.

Seven of these wounds were penetrating in nature, with projectiles recovered and no corresponding exit wounds. These bullet tracks had entrance into the left upper back (1), left mid-back (2), left lower back (3), and left lateral chest wall (1). Many of these bullets perforated vital organs, including the lungs and heart.

One of these wounds was a perforating wound, with both an entrance and an exit wound. This bullet entered the left upper back, traversed soft tissue, and exited from the right shoulder area.

Toxicological analysis will be performed to detect any substances in Mr. Smith’s system at the time of death. Results of these tests will be available in approximately six to eight weeks.

by no mean does it justify a shooting but I imagine Hayes was in hot pursuit and Smith brake checked him causing second accident. A whole lot of stupid went down.

Then there is the events that went down after all this.

What did he say after that?

That Hayes then intentionally shot the wife twice, followed by 6-8 shots into Will's back. Then after Will is down, Hayes was standing over his body and yelling and screaming.

The last part doesn't make much sense because Will wasn't laying dead on the ground, but slumped over the steering wheel. Furthermore, we have not currently heard any eye witness statements that Hayes stood over/near Smith's body and began yelling or screaming.

In other words, the side he would have exposed getting into his vehicle.

What's outrageous about that statement? The Hummer in no way stopped so aggressively that Smith couldn't stop before hitting the Hummer.

I think you misheard. Lawyer said that Hayes and his friend got out to confront Smith. Then Wife and friend (gender unknown) got out to diffuse.

no, start listening at about 17 minutes in. he clearly says will got out, and then mentions his passenger getting out and "they" approach the 2 men in the hummer and words were exchanged.

Go to 1:55 of this video

You really think this is Hayes slamming on his brakes?

That was like the most normal stop for a vehicle you can ask for. Smith just didnt brake and rear ended him

Smith was shot 8 times, 6 in the back.

I wonder if he was shot twice in the front, and then six times in the back, or the other way around.

Seems unlikely that he could have been hit in the chest after being shot in the back, and this makes it sound like Hayes shot Smith before he even reached for a gun, unless I am missing something.

Maybe I'm not reading this correctly and the bullet took a pretty straight path, but it sounds like some magic bullet crap.

I will never understand how a bullet can take such an odd path like this. But I've also never taken a physics class in my life so that might explain it.

Shitty wording by the lawyer.

He says Will gets out of the car. Then he says "His passenger, a male, gets out of their car". Then he says "They approach the two men in the Hummer"

Who is the "His" of "His passenger"? Is it Hayes, or Smith? Is the "car" in "gets out of their car." the Hummer or the Mercedes?

He then says "They" approach the Hummer.

I think it's ambiguous but I can see how it can be taken to mean that two men (Smith and a passenger) got out to confront the Hummer.

Sounds like a straight path to me. You can draw a line from below your left shoulder blade (Left upper back) to your right shoulder area.

There are instances where a bullet is shot into a person, it bounces around, exits person and projects towards person who fired original shot

Wonder what type of ammo Hayes had

And also, if he can put 6 clean shots or whatever into the Smiths back, yet shoots two into the leg of the wife with the intent to murder her?

Yeah they changed the headline. It originally said 6.

Correction: An earlier version of this story incorrectly said Will Smith was shot six times in the back. He was shot seven times in the back and once in the chest.

That's what I thought. Basically an angled shot. If the bullet acted like that after being shot at a 90 degree angle to his left back, that's wild.
