The passenger of Cardell Hayes' Hummer H2, Kevin Oneale, told his attorney that Cardell saved his life.
Attorney Tanzanike Ruffin issued the following statement to NBC News:

My client believes that Cardell saved his life." Ruffin said. "Smith had a gun and was going to shoot it and Cardell may have saved both of their lives … in my mind this is justifiable homicide. Was Will Smith acting like a Saint? This was a hit-and-run that ended up in a tragedy. You’ve got the aggression of two football players, facing off with each other as if they are on the field and you are going to get your point across by any means necessary.”

What was shooter doing out on Magazine Street with his friend Kevin O'Neal and two loaded guns? Just joyriding, partying or looking for a quick money grab? The boy lives in NO East. LGD doesn't seem like his part of town.

Where did Smith live. Did he always carry? What do you think about hit and runs?

Smith lived in Kenner off of Loyola Drive between WEsplanade and Lake Pontchy.

Don't know if Smith always carried.

I don't think the first hit and run caused damage. Show me proof that it did and I'll make a statement then.

Between her, her client and his friend "The Shooter," I'm guessing we have a half ton load.

But the uneducated reactionaries will say the accused doesn't deserve representation. Let's hope they are never falsely accused. As much as I despise the guilty, I understand why everyone is entitled to representation. Most of the time, the outcome us correct, but there is no perfect system. To protect ourselves, we have to live with that.

Interesting new statement from Hayes' passenger. More info those who have rushed to judgement didn't have, but hey what difference does it make anyway?

Whoever suggested this was first degree murder needs a realty check. It's starting to look like manslaughter at best. That could change as more facts come out. Still so much we don't know. Lots of info came out today which changes things.

More blaming the victim?

Unreal. Not much has changed for me. Smith is dead, and these guys' lawyers are making up a story that vindicates them of murder.

Nope. I don't know all the facts and neither do you. Nothing I said blames the victim. I'm simply not rushing to judgement.
I'll tell you this, though. The Smiths have 3 young children. If Smith bumped that car and ran, what a dumbass. Did he deserve to die over it? Absolutely not. The accused is the sole supporter of a young child. Was he an idiot, too? Yes.

Do the charges fit the crime? I have no idea. Too much unknown info.

What I do suspect is that two fathers acted like fools and it appears that two families will pay dearly for their lapses in judgement. 4 young children are affected in addition to other family.

And, ps, the defense attorneys are doing their jobs whether you agree or not.

This.

Surprise, surprise. A lawyer claiming that their client isn't guilty. I'm convinced. I'm sure the state is going to drop the charges and apologize to the murderer.

Ben, you are taking this very personal.

Neither party involved is innocent from what I have read.

You're right, I need to let it go. I can't stand bullies. I believe that when Hayes intentionally struck Smith's SUV he was officially in the wrong. I pay a buck fifty a month for insurance. I would've tried to get his plate and called them. It just all seems so Senseless.
