What a myopic, arrogant opinion to hold.

I’ve lived in small towns and big cities. I’d choose small towns 100% every time. There is only one reason to move to the big city and that is money. Once you get that GTFO like your life depends on it.

Depends on the small town.

But yeah. We gave away textiles and manufacturing to the Chinese and it has decimated small town America.

It is pure hell. I have no neighbor for a mile every direction. My neighbor to the South is a huge blueberry farm so I load up with fresh blueberries every spring. I grow all my own herbs and most of my vegetables. I have no worries about crime. For exercise, I walk with my dogs a few miles around the cow pastures.

If I don't know someone, they know who I am or I know "of them." The vast majority of people, both black and white, are good folks.

Every morning, before I drive to work (office is in a small town), some cows come up for their morning cow cubes.

I love music, and can play it at any volume because no one else is around to hear it.

I could never go back to living in any city.

Newport, RI is possibly the greatest summer experience in the country and it’s got 25k full time residents. Water sports, nearby hiking, bars/restaurants galore, history, weather, people, festivals, proximity to other awesome places, and just overall culture make you want to live in a small town. Unfortunately, the Souths version of towns like that don’t exist really at all, minus Florida.

Yes, the south does not have the money and investment of literally the most wealthy families in history creating a summer hot spot

This doesn't exist in the South, correct:

Give me small town rural America all day, every day than the plight of overpopulated, cement laden cesspools

That, and you have to drive an hour to do anything really.

The deal breaker for me is when a town is small enough you aren't anywhere near a decent grocery store.

There is a shopping center right outside of Lucedale, MS that has a Dollar General, Family Dollar, AND Dollar Tree.

Maybe towns wouldn’t be so bad if not for all the Townies.

I grew up in a tiny town, 2k people. I take my kids there for Fourth of July. It is a hilariously depressing place. The lack of commerce is a major problem, but you can drive 30 miles to a city of 75k to get options.

The brain drain is the big kicker. It is appalling how stupid and ugly the average person is.

Alabama has some cool small towns outside of the Black Belt. Everything inside of the Black Belt is a hellhole.

Jasper, Athens, Florence, Huntsville, Decatur, Helena. Outside of finding a place to party until 2AM, they have just about everything else. Florence is my top in state retirement spot. Small college town, awesome lake, plenty of places to eat, fantastic downtown.
Out of those choices, Jasper is the best in my opinion. Cullman is better than all of those unless you want to party at night at bars. Four lakes with good fishing - Smith Lake, Lake George, Lake Catoma and Duck River Reservoir. Only 39 miles to Lake Guntersville. Central to lots of great small towns between Birmingham and Huntsville. Plenty of hiking areas, lots of restaurants and lots of conservative MAGA Christian people that make great neighbors.

all about what's important to you. we just moved from a city of 800K to one a little under 3K and couldn't be happier

one of my best friends in our former city would love to do the same but his wife is a big city girl and wants to move someplace even bigger than where they are now

My cousin had a fine dining restaurant in Victor. They had some goats there and made French cheese from their milk in the shack next door. Alas, the restaurant closed, so he opened a little joint in the shack next door. Called it Grumpy's Goat Shack. Dogs, tacos beer, etc. Bras and panties stapled to the ceiling. Mike closed it and retired a few years ago.

Small towns offer easy living.

The coffee shop in the morning.
The local watering hole in the afternoon.
No traffic. Little crime. No need to lock doors.

What more could you ask for or need?
