Could be as simple as someone needed toilet paper.

The slaves probably rolled joints with it

If there is a God (Christianity), why were slaves punished (during this time period)? Aren't we all his children? And last, in all honesty, aren't we all slaves to someone/something?

Lol are you serious? His chosen people were slaves for over 400 years, and then went through the holocaust.

Even in the Old Testament, chattel slavery as we had in the colonies was pretty frowned upon. and even then, they had to free them after 6 or 7 years.

Dude this is complete fantasy right here. Where do you think European nations got “chattel" slavery from? They didn't pull it out of thin air. Slavery in the OT and NT is usually a translation of the word “doulos" and it doesn't mean servant or worker, it is a clear cut word meaning “Slave".

Yea people forget God led Moses and his people to freedom out of slavery.

I think people think the Bible supported it because there were instances of punishment for people regarding theft or mistreatment of slaves as they were property but that was simply part of stories written by man, not necessarily condoned by God.

I have a feeling the "let my people go" passages were among the ones removed.

Probably took out the ones saying you can't make slaves work on the Sabbath, and the part in red letters about not breaking up what God has joined together (as that would protect slave marriages).
