Your problem is with Chicken (with all due respect to His Royal Fowlness) - the overspecialization of the site into too many sub boards.
Back in the day, the OT was exactly that - everything that was off topic of LSU sports (mainly football), period.
Now, if you tread lightly onto a subject that is marginally covered by another board's subject area, you get a "wrong board" - so, the OT has devolved into toilet humor and a lot of OG OT circle jerks.
Just if you want to know the absolute truth about it.
The OT is still great for mystery solving and following breaking news stories. "Check ya mics" is a real thing.
But, the great discussions about politics, film, music, etc., have been Balkanized into insular subgroups of TD.com. In some cases it's fine - in other case, you have the Poliboard.
It is what it is.
