Your lack of belief in the crazy blue-haired trigglies might be due to that. Outside of Baton Rouge and New Orleans, I doubt you'll find hardly any at all in LA, the same goes for other Deep South States.
Any major college campus or large city will have a bunch of them, though. It's probably no more than 10 to 15% of their peer population, but that's significant enough.

Maybe, but I'm in Baton Rouge and do occasionally leave the state and interact with people. Maybe it's just conspiracy-minded bullshite on my part, but I think this "movement" is blown way out of proportion by the media.

I've been seeing a bunch since moving to Tuscaloosa/Birmingham. UAB certainly has a metric frickton, and Bama seems to be getting them from all the Yankee and Left Coast states, the natives are as normal as ever.
