Single, middle aged people with no kids or responsibility?

Yes, the pros are doing whatever you want when you want...but yea, I'll say that at the end of a day of playing golf, hanging out with friends, etc...do you get depressed when your friends or whoever you were hanging out with go home to their spouses and/or kids? What becomes the meaning of life at 40 when you really have nothing to leave behind? What keeps you getting out of bed each day and thinking you have a real purpose since you missed the 'family' part of life? What's the next step?

I'm in my mid-30's with no kids, but I do have a gf (no pics) and its fricking amazing. I'm not complaining when my friends have to go home early (like 10:00ish) and face screaming kids and no money.

Does being in a loving, committed relationship and having sex with your partner on a regular basis really seem that depressing?
Personally, I'm greatly looking forward to the days when I have plenty of money and financial security so that I can do what I want when I want. If I have a beautiful, faithful woman by my side, then that's all I could ask for.
Get a few pets if you would like the responsibility and compassion of caring for and attending to another living creature.

I used to be in that number and got married at 32. Fast forward five years I now have a 3 1/2 year old son and the wife is 7 1/2 months pregnant with another son. I would not trade my life now for anything in this world.

I have a lot of gfs in their mid to late 30s that are financially independent and single with no kids. They all seem very content. If they get in a relationship....great, but it doesn't make or break their overall happiness. They all travel a good bit as well.

You can find meaning in a lot of things. I don't have kids, but I have nieces & nephews and awesome friends. My life doesn't have a ton of deep meaning, but I'm pretty happy.

How so? They do what they want. Travel when they want, go out with friends when they want, etc. many of them successful women (doctors, lawyers, etc).
They wouldn't pass up a relationship and marriage.....but they don't let that define their happiness.
