How many trashy videos do we watch on here where we say, “those kids have no shot”. I have many friends that grew up poor and have “made it”, but we both know those are the exception. I don’t subscribe to liberal programs to help the poor because I generally think that they are counterproductive, but at times I feel like fellow conservatives have no compassion.

So... if landlords can’t raise rents more than 7% and can’t evict “without a reason”, how is that going to affect the rental market?
Seems that landlords would need to be extra picky about new tenants and would be highly unwilling to cut them a break on the price if they were limited in how much they could increase the cost by legislative mandate.
That's one of those unintended consequences of rent control.
That's usually how liberal ideas play out. They sound good on the surface, but when you actually dig deep and analyze the consequences and ramifications of the policies, they aren't so great.
I.E. universal healthcare sounds great, until you realize the taxes, waiting times and rationed care.
Minimum wage increases sound great, until you realize that everything will cost more and hours will be cut to compsensate, or companies will just hire robots.
This is what leftists don't get about minimum wage, and in this case, rent control. If you force businesses to pay $15 an hour or force apartments to rent at certain prices, they will be VERY picky about who they hire/who they rent to. The same people who would supposedly benefit from minimum wage/rent control(i.e. lower on the rung types) will be the ones who don't get hired or get passed over on the rent application.

If I hear racism from these whiny victims one more time I'll die. When will this madness end? Country is being ruined by these freaks.

Shitty culture, terrible parents.
Every kid in America is given a route out of poverty.

I used to laugh at stuff like this and think, haha, stupid West Coast liberals. But these ideas, no matter how ill conceived, have a way of catching on across the country in liberal cities.

It's really not even that difficult to not be poor. Graduate high school, don't have kids until you are married, don't commit crimes, get a job. There are plenty of tradesman that make a good living.

Hard to get out of what you are born into.

Exactly.
People that never escape poverty are either mentally deficient, addicted to drugs/alcohol or have emotional issues that cause a lack of time at a job.
Just showing up every day, sober is 90% of the battle.

Hell, even showing up half drunk from the night before counts. Too many people aren’t dependable.

Because they aren’t formed from a place of logic and reality, but emotion.
“Free college for all!”
Except now you’ve completely diluted the value of a degree. If there is no risk involved in something there is no reward. If it is common and abundant it isn’t worth much.

We know that single-family zoning is exclusive,” Phan said. “Folks who have gained generational wealth from single-family homes in this country are by and large white people. That was by design.”
Look at how oppressed she is.

Outside a small apartment complex in southwest Portland, Pamela Phan, the organizing director of Community Alliance of Tenants, pointed at ripped screens and cardboard on windows and doors and said residents there had told her about infestations of rats, mice and cockroaches. Tenants “complain and complain, but nothing gets done,” Phan said. “And the rents keep going up and up.” Residents, many of whom are Somali, Latino or other immigrants from low-income families, prize the location for its proximity to a mosque and elementary school, she said. Some have seen rent hikes as high as 25 % in recent years and a two-bedroom apartment that used to cost $750 a month about a decade ago now runs $1,300. Those in neighboring apartment complexes, she said, face the same challenges, underscoring the need for renter protections

One of the number combos on that card should be 1488.

They don’t seem to have a concept of supply and demand.
