Stories from my grandparents and great grandparents before they died negate your anecdote that this is a recent phenomenon

People always assume that things are getting worse, whether its crime or whatever, but the only thing that has changed in increase in population and families not being ashamed.

If you think of today compared to... lets say the 40s and 50s, the population has grown significantly so there are just more people around to do these things.. Also, it use to be an embarrassment to a family if their daughter got pregnant out of wedlock so they would hide it... Or not be open about it so it wasn't heard of as much.

Humans have always been humans who do human shite. I wonder how many kids were born as a result of a husband raping his wife.. Because husband could legally force their wives to have sex with them?

Parents have been giving up their kids since before history.

If you believe in such things, Moses was given up to die in a stream. Even if you don't, whoever wrote that story was familiar with the concept.

People like you are a reason I think the world is mostly a good place. For all the shitty parents who don't give a shite there are heros like you ready to step in and be a parent to kids whose parents are shite.

Didn't know you were a foster parent. Kudos to you.

I have a 3 year old and a 5 month old and each day I debate sending them both on a train to some far away place.

I dont do it, but it crosses my mind

From LINK

1 And there went a man of the house of Levi, and took to wife a daughter of Levi.
2 And the woman conceived, and bare a son: and when she saw him that he was a goodly child, she hid him three months.
3 And when she could not longer hide him, she took for him an ark of bulrushes, and daubed it with slime and with pitch, and put the child therein; and she laid it in the flags by the river's brink.
4 And his sister stood afar off, to wit what would be done to him.

So as the story goes, Moses biological mother sent him downstream. She didn't intentionally set out to kill him, but she sure as hell gave up her baby, which addresses the OP's question.

We as a society are becoming increasingly self-centered. It's an abomination.

It isn't some "new" or "western" thing.

Neither is murder or slavery. Guess that makes it ok.

These threads ate always great. Filled with old fricks acting like the world has gone to shite despite the fact that just about everything they are complaining about was worse "back in the day".
