Sign the 5 year old up for baseball so they begin their sedentary lifestyle at an early age.

It is because of pure frustration...kids get called for targeting every time they head the ball. All those kids were having to sit out the first half of your game.

My son played teeball this year and we ran into this issue a few times with the kids. My biggest thing was I had parents of the opposite team tell me their coach hasn't showed up once. Had a parent on a different team tell me that their coach wasn't coming because the game was saturday and that's football day. So it ain't just the kids. Some parents are more concerned with random college kids playing football than spending time with their own kid.

Maybe he’s a great painter or rock climber or race car driver or swimmer or drummer. You’ll never know because you are busy forcing him to play the sport YOU want him to learn.

What part of he loves to play the game don’t you understand?

Did you even read my post? If your parents brought you out there, your arse is getting equal playing time if I have to drag you on the field and you just stand there and pout. Everyone dressed in my team gets equal playing time.

Could also be that the parents got butthurt by coaching decisions and pulled their kids in retaliation.

What kind of coaching decisions are being made in 5 year old soccer? Isn’t the main concern is that they don’t shite their pants?

How do you know it’s from quitting the team? Could the team be dealing with some sick kids? Not uncommon for a bunch of 5 year olds to get each other sick.

When my angel of a daughter was 5, she wanted to be on a t ball team. Since I coached little league 17 years i got excited. Got her a glove, bat etc. etc. She went to practice and did ok. Got to game and she wouldn't exit the dugout. The coaches called me over and I went and sat down next to her and we
talked. Finally got down to the bottom line when I asked, "Well, sweetheart ,why did you say you wanted to be on the team?"............... "cause I wanted to get my picture taken." Spent about $150 to hear that.

I don't know about soccer, but apparently in travel baseball if critical skills are not mastered at that age they will never have a chance at playing pro ball.

To see if they like it. Sorry, but at 5 years old you and they have no clue what they like yet. A couple games in is enough to figure it out.

And if they don't like it, don't sign up next season. But quitting midseason is such a shitty move on the parents part. Teach your kids a little about commitment.
