Lol so you're telling me that the temps found on Antarctica are going to be different in the millions of years we weren't able to record to the years that we were? If this is a phenomenon that is apart of natural history then how can you definitely say that? Your claim is as stupid as mine. All the evidence we have points towards climate change yet ur ignorant arse has to claim I'm "idiotic" like you probably say about reports put out by educational institution with years of research and evidence. Have fun living in ignorance and not giving a shite about the facts of the world around you.

So if that's the case, why has pressure been placed on just citizens of the US? Why hasn't a world team of scientists gotten together and said something?

It hasn't, and they have and continue to do so.

His attempted refute of your claim is nothing more than a poorly constructed straw man.

For the sake of argument, let's remove the part of the planet's history from before we were able to record temps and collect scientific data...a time which also happens to correspond with the time before humans impacted the environment in any meaningful way.

Now, let's decide on if we know what causes or contributes to global warming. (Answer: yes)

Then, let's take a look at the trend line in the recorded data we do have. Is it following a natural trend line, or is there more of a hockey stick like break? (Answer: trend break in the wrong way)

Last, we need to confirm if that trend break is more likely caused by something natural going on with the earth (knowing that the earth's temp varies over the eons)...which I don't believe has been found...or if it's likely tied to things humans are doing, which is the odds on favorite.

Then it becomes more about, what can we do to reverse that trend? There's a lot of things. Small things, big things, and humans are pretty smart. We'll figure it out, but it requires an acknowledgement of the problem, it's causes, and its implications (which are bad).

I have no idea what you are trying to say here. Are you telling me that the temps in Antarctica don't change?

What i'm telling you is you have no idea what your even looking at, and you are looking at such a small blip of the history of climate on this earth.

What is the earths temperature? how is that defined and how do they get that temperature to show you in all those scientific charts.
What is the temperature of the earths oceans? how is that defined?
How on earth can you tell me what the earths temperature was 100,000 years ago, knowing how we calculate the earths temperature today? do you think there arent' small large fluctuations in the past history of the earths climate? Small could mean 50 years. We see charts that show the temp for 50,000 years was this much, and you just assume there were no fluctuations in that?

All the evidence you speak of, you have no idea what it even means, or how it was ascertained. You just believe it b/c it's science bro.

Do you know that CO2 makes up 0.038% of the earths atmosphere, and humans are responsible for 3% of that, but somehow that 3% of 0.038% is causing some global phenomenon?

And i'm not trying to say I know any of this either. I just don't simply believe everything someone says, just b/c they are a scientist. When there's money to be made, I will always be skeptical to the truth behind it.

Exactly.... we don't have a definite "yes" that humans have caused this but all the evidence we do have points in that direction. Yet these ppl claim that because earths history extendeds way beyond recorded history so we can't prove one thing or the other. I don't get the determination of certain people to argue facts, these things haven't happened in our history and without acknowledgement won't be fixed yet these fricks want to call me idiotic.

Answer to all of these questions is: science.

I haven't been able to confirm your 3% number, but it did lead to me finding the following, which starts to answer your question (science is fun, because questions lead to exploration and learning! SCIENCE! )

quote:

Human CO2 emissions upset the natural balance of the carbon cycle. Man-made CO2 in the atmosphere has increased by a third since the pre-industrial era, creating an artificial forcing of global temperatures which is warming the planet. While fossil-fuel derived CO2 is a very small component of the global carbon cycle, the extra CO2 is cumulative because the natural carbon exchange cannot absorb all the additional CO2.

To be honest, I'm not sure I got the point you made in your last post. I was just saying that we have the answers to all the questions you included (I got the perception you were saying we don't).

My point is you see some chart and believe it b/c of science, yet you do nothing to see what went in to making that chart.

As I said before, explain to me how we even arrive at the earth's temperature that we are charting. Are we taking an average from 100 points on earth, 1000 points, 10,000 points? Where are these points? at what height above sea level is it being recorded? How often are you taking the temperatures and charting them? every second, minute, hour, day, week, month? is there some other method of determining the earths global temperature?
Can you not see how there can be differences in how that number is reached?

Yeah. Right. Like the earth is magically getting hotter.

It's actually a major factor.

The climate is changing. It is warming. This can't be argued or denied. The only debate is whether it is man-made or natural.

My belief is that it is occurring naturally but being sped up due to human activities.
