I agree. That's why I said our impact is not helping in any way. The earth has never seen the amount of humans as there are today and I think there is a great impact on the climate.

You are being 100% dismissive of logic, and the true crux of the discussion.

I feel the same way about you.

quote:

Has the earth warmed before? Possibly, probably. Was it due to humans back then? No. Was it a good thing when it happened? No.

This has got to be one of the dumbest things I've ever read. so anytime the earth warms it's bad?

quote:

It's never a good thing for what's now happening to be happening (at least at the rate it is). So simply saying "this has maybe happened before" is yet another straw man.

the point i'm making when I say "it's happened before" is that you are not looking at the big picture. You look at 10 years of warming and say "oh no" where in actuality, 10 years to the earth is comparable to a millisecond of your lifetime.

quote:

If it cannot be explained because of some natural occurrence (earth's orbit is about as vague as you can get), the only other factor is humans.

the variations of the earth's orbit is what has been the biggest factor in global climate change since the beginning of time.
I guess we could just say it's aliens that are doing it too since it cannot be explained. In science, when you make assumptions, or as some call them hypothesis, you can't call them facts until your prove them.
Prove to me that humans are causing the earth to warm. If we truly were the cause of it, it wouldn't be debated among scientists. Scientist will always look to disclaim other scientists. It's how they double, and triple and quadruple check each other. There's nothing better for a scientist after they prove something than for other scientist to try to disprove it and fail at disproving it. I'd bet money there's a guy out there right now trying to disprove E=MC^2, and hell you never know, maybe one day someone will disprove it, but no one has yet.

quote:

The fact that you don't think we know what causes global warming is just something I can't even waste my time on. Other than laughing in an exasperated fashion.

I feel the same way about you thinking you definitely know why the earth is warming, and why it is doing so at a rate it has never done before? You can not show me proof of this that isn't rebutted, and if other scientist have claims against it, then it's not proven. When everyone agrees that it's solely related to humans, i'll agree with you.

Until then, i'll continue to not give a shite about it, and I am in no way saying I want to pollute the earth and waste energy and resources.

If it's not humans driving the historic rate of change today

this is where I cant get you to understand my point.
This historic rate you speak of, it's only historic based on the last 50 or so years since we've had satellites.
We don't know how the earths temperature fluctuated 22,000BC to 21,950BC. We have no earthly idea what the temperature was in that time frame. We can estimate what it was, based off an estimate of data that can account for a period over thousands of years, but we don't know if they were large fluctuations in temperature over short periods of time back then.
To say this warming rate is historic, and then to say it's man made, lacks any evidence whatsoever. 50 years is 0.000000001% of the earths life. Do you really think a change over that small of a number makes a difference to the earth? that's like saying on no it was cold this morning, earth must be cooling, then by 2 oclock it's hot, well oh no, the earth is warming again.
