How old were you when you figured out what gender you wanted to be?

I've never really been a yeller. My kids knew I wasn't a yeller so sometimes when I wanted them to know I was really pissed I would yell thinking they would think hey dad never yells we must've really screwed up. Now that they are young adults they joke about what a lunatic I acted like & don't even remember what I said

It would seem that many of you have missed the title....it says it CAN be. It does not say it IS. Who is to say it is not as harmful in some cases??? I suspect that children react differently to different things. Some may react similarly to the way a kid who is sexually abused reacts...who knows? Some may not react at all. The study and report is not equating the 3 it is stating that they can all be equally harmful in some cases.
The article also mentions that shouting at a child is an overt action. It is indeed. There are other ways adults abuse kids like ignoring them. Overt actions seem to be more traumatic for kids...and as such should be studied differently and kids should be protected differently. WHy on earth would anyone be OK with somone yelling at their child incessantly? That is almost as sick as yelling at a child incessantly....

Now do, "I'm gonna bust your arse until your nose bleeds" and "shut up before you get another one".

This explains why I hate getting yelled at!
Just don't snatch up a house shoe, belt, piece of Hot Wheels track, fly swatter, switch or hand and then beat my arse with it.

I for one am glad that my parents just shouted at me

I have done my fair share of shouting at my kids. Hardly ever spanked them. They love the crap out of me and they always get compliments on their well behavior from other parents and teachers.
