We shouldn't shame bastard children, but it is painfully obvious at this point that single parents on a macro level is not working out. The statistics of their and the child's life are staggering

For sure, but its all part of our movement away from traditional values.
Previously people would get married young not move in together before getting married. Only have children in wedlock.
We have moved away from shaming that behavior which leads to more single moms.
I don't think "shaming" is the answer to anything, but emphasizing families would be a good first step.
