Since we're all worried about appearances, how does it look that Louisiana gives Tom Benson $400 million of public funds to subsidize his football team and other holdings, yet LSU can't use private funds to make a coaching change?

Yes. Give it all to higher Ed and let them leave.

No matter how many boards y'all post the same basic thread, it wasn't solely a matter of not wanting to pay a buyout for the sake of appearances.

The more immediate issue as Alexander himself said in the article that the Rant is flipping out over is that they simply didn't want to get rid of Miles. The buyout price and its "appearance" was simply icing on the cake.

That's just bullshite

If they didn't want to get rid of him they couldn't come to that conclusion until he was losing to A&M at halftime?

No Alexander let the cat out of the bag. He balked at the price because he is too stupid to realize all if those arguments against firing were strawmen.

We'll need a governor to call the Benson Family's bluff about moving the team if we cut the subsidy. Then again it might not be a complete bluff especially with the ownership issues.

Does the State get any kickbacks from the Saints? Or is it purely all profit for the Saints?

I'm at this point. I couldn't care less one way or another if the Saints left.

I've been a HUGE saints fan, ever since the super bowl and I just can't imagine the state without them. For the sake of our children and grand children we should do all we can to keep them here.

Makes sense. I would say put a no-suck clause in the contract...if they have trouble making money due to suckage then it should be on them to improve.

But if they're good and still need a subsidy, that would mean NOLA isn't a viable market.

That isn't how the $400 million works. Most of it is indirect subsidies.

You need to read up

It's still 400 million dollars

Let them go 6-10 in Los Angeles or San Antonio

No it isn't. $400 million of public funds are not being given to the Saints

It is potentially $400 million dollars, and the state also makes money off a lot of the improvements that were paid for. It includes concessions, ticket sales, Super Bowl payments, the naming payments, etc, etc

The Benson Tower was rotting away too. That whole area has had amazing development.

Not to mention the economic impact the Super Bowl, Final Fours, Bowl games, championships, etc, etc have on New Orleans.
