The Harvard thing got me thinking.

I think Gov. Landry should call for a 10 year moratorium on
[A] Admission of foreign students into any institution of learning sponsored by the state of Louisiana
[B] Hiring of foreign born faculty / teachers.

First preference of these jobs should go to Louisiana residents and then to other Americans.

In 10 years hopefully Trump and Vance can get the immigration under controll and then we can re-evaluate.

I moved to the US at 5 and am a US citizen, you can’t just ban all “foreign born” people that have the same rights as someone born in the US.

I went to engineering grad school at LSU in the late 90’s and it was the only American in the building. 1-2 my professors were from India and 1/2 from South Korea…the student break down was the same.

Foreigners that are educated and follow proper procedures to get here to work and go to school arent the problem.

Any state university funded by taxes should be required to admit in-state students 1st, out-of-state 2nd.

Private universities can do whatever they like, as long as they get no funding from the gubmint!

Total ban seems harsh. Maybe require better screenings of admissions, but LSU has a long standing tradition of admitting foreign students, especially from Central and South America. Why should that be stopped now?

Study abroad is a good thing as long as you respect the place you study. Start attempting to openly bash the place that is allowing you to learn from them, then it’s time to go. Pretty simple.

What are you considering a foreign student? If they're here on a legal, student VISA then I don't see the issue. If they are naturalized I don't see the issue.

And honestly, is the competition so high for LSU (or really a lot of our state universities) that you can't admit both American citizens and foreign students?

It’s like recruiting… do you want the 5 star recruit or do you want the 3 stars?

Louisiana doesn't produce students who can succeed, hence we need foreign students

Sure, why not?

I enjoyed meeting and working with the various people in my classes when at LSU. Can’t say that I was great friends with any foreign student, but it as was good learning that no matter where you go, people are not all that different.

Yes. Children of tax paying Americans who meet the academic requirements, wanting to attend a state university funded by taxes, should ALWAYS get priority over foreign students!
