It has crossed my mind.

I did handle it immaturely
Nah, you did okay. Don't sweat it.
As for the texts. Just respond like this.
"Yes, I am at home. Sorry this couldn't work out. We obviously had two different ideas as to what we were. Best of luck in the future."
1. It's the mature thing to do.
2. It's very straight forward and leaves no room for misinterpretation.
3. She'll be trying to get back on your dick for months after a text like that. The trick is, don't let her get on it. Unless you just need some pussy, but make it be known that it's just physical. You made the mistake last time of leaving things undefined and aren't going to do it again.

Sometimes you make a point to do all the little things right and not take any shortcuts after meeting someone.
When that isn't enough for them (and you find out like I just did), you lose all desire to invest another ounce of anything with them.
If I want to just get off, I can move my energy to that without having to deal with after immediately hooking up with her having to wonder "where I didn't measure up" to make her want to pursue someone else.

My guess is that you're still a young guy, but cut yourself a break. You did what you needed to do to get through seeing her at the BBQ. Apparently, you were more invested in the relationship than her. You can go one of two ways, (1) answer her and explore the possibility of an exclusive relationship (I doubt it will happen because of her "let's wait and see" comment and the fact that she is seeing other guys right now) or (2) Move on and enjoy yourself.
More than likely there will be other heartbreaks in your life. At the age of 58 I long term serious relationship came to an end for me. I don't know that I ever want to be in another relationship again, but I'm kinda old. You are young so go out and have a good time. Best wishes.

GeauxxxTigers23 is right. Have had this same story happen with an on again/off again fwb chick. The best is just to lay out short and sweet.

Just because you made her top priority doesn't mean she had you at the top... Take your medicine and walk on, obviously she has started moving on...

Thanks. Good advice. I changed it slightly:
"I just got home. Sorry this couldn't work out. We obviously had two different ideas as to what we were. I always enjoyed the time that we spent together and I wish you nothing but the best."

It's always a good idea to take the high road. Well done.

Well done young man. I see good things in your future.

Lol I wouldn't take that guys advice.

Agreed, well done. Hope "it" works out for the best, whatever "it" is for you

It'd be great if she reads TD and sees you had to steal someone's words to break up a non-exclusive relationship.

What's wrong with that advice.
10 to 1 she's balling her eyes out as she drives to his apartment to grovel for forgiveness as we speak.

She's too busy getting railed by that other dude.

Whatever happened to acting like a man??? Tell her face to face what you learned and make her fess up on front of evwryone. Either you got the facts mixed up or she gets publicly shamed. There really isn't a middle ground here

Did the guy really brag about his night at that BBQ? At least see what she has to say
And some people on here I just automatically throw their posts in the trash pile. Kinda like if turkey creek guy gave advice in here. To the garbage.
