Should gyms charge for membership while closed?

Was discussing this with a coworker. The gym (not mine) closed, but they are charging normal membership dues during that time.

you would have gotten charged anyway. if you want your gym to be there at the end of this let them charge

Mine's closed but isn't. Memberships are simply frozen.
I presume most are doing the same?

I don’t think this is grammatically correct

I want my gym to survive this, so yes they should keep charging if they need to.

I don’t know, but my membership wasn’t under a contract so I canceled it.

If they are paying their workers right now, I’ll allow it.

I agree with this. If they are paying their workers while home or while cleaning, that’s fine. If they fired their workers while still charging, frick ‘em.

I attend an OTF gym that has closed and they have frozen all accounts.

If everyone would prepare for emergencies like this it wouldn’t even be an issue. For instance, I have been paying for a gym membership I don’t use for the last 3 years. I hardly feel any effect now that an actual event is here.

Mine gave us the option - freeze draw or keep paying. We opted for door #2 since they said it will go to employees.

They can charge me now and extend my membership on the back end.

If by me paying would help assist the employees to still receive a paycheck while off work. Then I am completely fine with being charged.
Besides, there has been certain months where I have completely let my gym membership go to waste.

Daycares are doing this to to "hold your spot"
even if they aren't paying workers.

I don't really care if they are there at the end if it's at my expense. I would just go to another gym. It doesn't make sense to pay for a service that isn't being provided.

mine is freezing monthly payments
Posted on 3/20/20 at 8:27 am to GEAUXT
Yes and I will still gladly pay mine.
Don't intend to hurt a small business over this.
