Wife and I have been three times and rode the subway without incident. The last time we were there we got on the wrong train and went one or two stops below Times Square. The black lady working the booth looked at us and knew we were out of place and told us that we didn't need to be down here this time of night. She asked where we were staying and instructed us to get on the next train that stops on the outside track. She stood there outside her booth, like a look out to ensure we got on the right train and got outta there .

Glad I didn't get to experience this last weekend. Rode the subway twice, once from museum of natural history and the second on Sunday from upper east side to Roosevelt/Q70 to LGA. I didn't get the sense of feeling unsafe but definitely had my eyes on a swivel

They probably will, but in my view that is justified. Defending yourself and others should be completely legal without any legal threat from the government. The black guy was clearly the aggressor here.

Of course. Most cities even in their worst are safe in the tourist and business districts. They heavily policed even when there are force issues.

Its the lower end areas that get extremely dangerous, and when they are not under control it eventually spills over in to the safer areas. But for 99.9% of visitors they'll never feel unsafe in the main areas visited.

Every participant is a member of a protected demographic in NYC. No one will go to jail and the shooter will be released for self defense.

Now, had the shooter been white....well, we know how it would end.

Wow, that was a hard one to predict.

Guy is not dead.

"The 36-year-old is in critical but stable condition, Kemper said. He was shot four times -- once in the neck, once in the chest and twice in the right side of the face -- and has two stab wounds to the back, according to law enforcement sources."

Also:

"No charges are being filed against the 32-year-old man who fired a gun on a New York City subway, critically injuring one person, prosecutors said, citing "self-defense."
