are you referring to the oak tree across the street on the corner with smoothie king and Dutchtown pharmacy?

The Oak Tree is long gone.

I heard part of the tree is on display at Dutchtown High.

The Deck Drive trailer hoods and the shitholes further down 73 have been here since the 80s and before.

Owner lost the deed to that land in a card game (if the stories I have always been told is true).

That sir is the perfect description of Ascension Parish since about 1990 when the white flight from EBR flooded the area and the locals were too greedy to limit the amount of development before the proper infrastructure was in place.

They just stopped this 2 years ago.

My son's freshman class at Dutchtown had 640 students last year.

They are the 2nd biggest school in the state. The new school will take about 1000 from Dutchtown and 1000k from St. Amant. But both schools have handled the growth very well.

Truth. ever wonder why that shite hole compound on Brightside before River Bend was there? Their family owned that entire area since Emancipation.

Yes Dutchtown is #2 and St Amant is #6.
They're way too big but the new HS is almost ready.

School Sizes in Louisiana

For perspective. Lafayette was #1 2 years ago and Dutchtown #4.
Unreal growth.

It was just approved this summer. AP don't frick around building schools. They throw up quality Primary schools like nobody in the State or even Texas for that matter. I know how ISD's work there.

I was told I would go to Dutchtown High when I was in 3rd grade.

I missed graduating from there by about 7 years.

I wish we could get some redistrict info. We're currently EA but as the crow flys, Dutchtown is half the distance from us.

But I don't see how they can do anything without changing up all the feeder schools too.

I think the feeder system, as it was, is done.

As a lifer around here, just know that the rule of thumb is that if you live close to one school you will go to another school 20 minutes further away. I had kids that lived very close to me go to different schools because the bayou split our houses at some point.

So you’re implying that it’s in now?

As someone else has mentioned, if you think that area is the hood, you’ve lead a very white privileged life. I work nearby and shop there often, I feel safer there than at Trader Joe’s.

If there is ever a use for eminent domain, it's for those splotches of ghetto hood rats and white trash doublewides in that area around the nice arse subdivisions.

Get rid of them. They're a blight on this nice and peaceful middle class to upper middle class community.

Half of 74 that direction is trash.

People acting like it is just a couple of bad spots.
