Can someone please explain to me how someone can run rampant through a fort without being shot near immediately?

If he was shooting up a neighborhood, someone would have grabbed their gun and already shot him.

Maybe I'm being ignorant, but it just seems so ridiculous.

Please, 24-hour news networks, do not tell us the shooter's name and do not plaster his picture everywhere. Please.

Not only that, but there were threats made against Fort Hood within the last month.

On base they lock you down, so if guys are in their unit, they are locked down in the unit and not allowed to go home, so you pretty much just leave the military spouses at home compared to a neighborhood where people can constantly come and go.

All of our weapons are locked in the arms room all day, and the armorer is the only one with access to them, unless you sign them out, to attend the range. Personal owned weapons can easily be stored at your home or snuck on to base, since the gate guards don't search your vehicles, when you come or go.

This guy giving the live reporting from the scene is doing an AMAZING job considering he is a soldier and isn't a professional reporter. LINK

Senior law enforcement officials are saying one shooter has been neutralized, they are looking for another.

Fair enough, thanks for the insight

I would imagine they have trained for issues such as these. Seems like there would have been something a bit more efficient in stopping this from escalating so quickly.

Only the MPs have weapons. All of the base personnel keep their weapons in the armory.
