If all the armed folks in that room shot, many of their friends and family would have been shot by friendly fire. Very few on the video looked “comfortable/ prepared” in that situation. And they all came into the equation after the killer was down. Lots of crossfire and friendly flagging. But they still acted...and that’s how this crap stops. But training is THE key.

Yeah, that dude's off button got pushed HARD. That shot at that distance on a target moving laterally to the shooter was a HELL of a shot.

I agree, but I think if it’s used as an opportune to learn rather than an opportunity to criticize then it’s a win.

haven’t seen that reported, but his reaction, mechanics, and delivery suggests he had top tier training and was ready for this encounter.
I read that in one of the articles about him being former FBI. I’ll see if I can find it

Probably another reason the shooter thought it’d be a soft target. Just shows that old people are smarter than younger people regarding guns. I’d guess that a higher percentage of older people carry than young people.

According to the witness, another church member — identified as a former FBI agent and part of the church’s security — shot the suspect.

I have a feeling security was clocking him since I read this:
After the Sutherland Springs shooting in 2017 TX passed some legislation:
This is the most complete coverage I have seen in one place:

Update 3:48 p.m. EST Dec. 29: In the livestream video from Sunday morning service, a man believed to be the shooter stands up when the congregation greets each other, shakes hands and leaves the building, KXAS reported.
The man re-entered the church and sat down, the television station reported. After standing up, the man pulls out a firearm and begins shooting, KXAS reported.
After the Sutherland Springs shooting in 2017 TX passed some legislation:

A law went into effect in September 2017 that allows churches to hire armed guards. Handgun owners also are allowed to bring firearms into the church as long as the church allows it, and a law passed earlier this year required churches to give notice to their congregations if they want to ban guns.

Ole baw made an impressive shot. Hand guns are typically good to about 10 yds.

That dude is a badass. When the first shot went off and everyone ducked he turned and drew down... that man saved lives.

I take it the 2 dead are the first guy and the gunman? The first guy dropped immediately. Hell of a shot to kill the gunman
He was dead as he fell. Look at the video again, you can see the spray of blood from that poor man get blasted onto the wall to his left. A split second later he falls.
Damn that was hard to see. Poor guy was just at church probably had plans to go get something to eat afterwards.

Hopefully his name and face are never shown or mentioned. Shooters should stay anonymous

Nope. Coulter rule is in full effect.

The FBI said Sunday evening that the gunman had been arrested in different jurisdictions but declined to go into detail about any charges he’d faced. Although the man had roots in the area, it appears he may have been transient.
This is about as much I have seen on him.
I also read that both church members died. For some reason I did not see that update and thought second member might still have a chance to survive.
quote:
MedStar spokeswoman Macara Trusty soon reported that the gunman and one of his victims had died at a hospital. The second victim was resuscitated after going into cardiac arrest on the way to a hospital, but authorities announced at an evening news conference that the person died later.
