Surprise ,Deer Valley, and Anthem are fine too, just way the hell out there and mainly residential. It's mainly just the inside the 101 areas on the west side (Glendale, Peoria, Phoenix) that are ghetto.
Oddly enough when you are talking about schools, Glendale Union is actually a pretty solid school system overall (minus a couple of them).

My inlaws live near 79th ave and thunderbird in Peoria. It's not too horrible there(although they have had lawn furniture and Christmas decorations stolen before).

Well ya PV IS the best and I kinda consider a part of Scottsdale, the best part of course but you have to be a multimillionaire to even consider living there. Cave Creek is great as well but its so damn far that like Fountain Hills I don't think of it as a part of the Phoenix metro area, I don't know of it is or not.
