I’m a contractor in Baton Rouge & I’ve never had this happen before. I met with a customer last week about some roof issues she was having. She informed me that the insurance adjuster was on his way there to check out the roof with me. After inspection he informed me & the homeowner he was going to replace the roof & fix interior damage. After a week I finally received Shelters Estimate around 7:30 am this morning. A few hours later I receive a call from a Shelter supervisor telling me he canceled the claim. I asked him how can he cancel a claim that was approved a week ago by a staff adjuster? He told be the claim is under review & more than likely he’s not gonna cover the roof. I was always under the impression once an adjuster approves a roof & submits the estimate it’s a done deal. Anyone ever had this happen? What recourse can the homeowner take?

Sorry for the long ramble

She is going to have to file a dispute with her company. Ask for paperwork why it’s being denied. Then you will most likely have to write a letter/show proof of why you think it’s bad. It will most likely get escalated to someone higher than this supervisor once if gets disputed.

Insurance companies do what they want. Homeowner has to do some asskicking and have agent fight for them.

Homeowner needs to call Shelter. As for paperwork showing they are rescinding approval and mention they need to send to their attorney. Document document document. Homeowner find attorney to send letter to request info from approval to denial.

They might change their tune. If not, walk away. Ins co has more $ and legal rep than homeowner most likely.

A lot of unknown variables here. It could be as simple as the company later realized the customer is 3 months late on paying premiums, etc.

Either that or the homeowner was previously paid for a roof that never got replaced.

Homeowner has never had any prior claims. The Shelter supervisor said he just didn’t agree with his staff adjuster on the damage.

A few leaks across the house. Adjuster originally approved roof because of hail damage. A lot of neighbors down her street had their roofs replaced due to hail.

They will probably send another adjuster out to the house for another inspection.

sounds like a weak argument for a contract breach, if no work was done

The leaks could have caused the denial. Maybe they had been there for a while and a prudent homeowner checks on these things every now and then.

But without directly viewing the claim, there are a ton of variables that can be causing this.
