mehh...

you still need a lot of positions for plant maintenance outside of a drone that flies around and captures inspection data.

drone operator.
maintenance hands.
maintenance supervisor.

and now probably someone who works on the drones. so really it's just swapping positions out, still plenty of humans needed.

my eyes were just assaulted by some metrosexual dude using daddy's money to run a youtube channel telling me how to dress in a manner that would confuse the general population on what my sexual preference is.

Don’t try and make any sense. Mingo is just mad that he spent 8 years in college and still doesn’t pull in what Birdseed does on straight time.

We already use drones for above ground tank roof and flare inspections.

And to fly around with infared sensors looking for hot spots in electrical systems off the ground. Add in that they make drones for inspections now that are surrounded by plastic cages and can fly into flare stacks, vessels, and even large pipes to do inspections.

You are correct, these will not eliminate jobs in any way, but will be safer in many situations and could save money.

I don't disagree, but just like everything else it's shifting to technologically skilled labor, and less headcount is needed.

I probably spent less time in college than you to get two degrees.

These plant baws are getting pretty defensive. They see the writing on the wall but are in denial at the moment

Is it not true? Have factories not cut labor exponentially?

What a stupid arguement

Yeah man, he's just going to come out and say "Yeah we hope to be able to lay off a couple hundred maintenance guys to save on salary expense." Read the article, it's pretty clear the objective is the replace labor with the drones

How's a 4 pound drone going to overcome the laws of physics to turn a torque wrench to 200 ft-lbs, you insufferable twat?

ETA: The Insufferable Twats would be a fantastic name for a punk band.

i work in technology you morons. i'm not a "plant baw". but my father is. he's a maintenance supervisor at a large chemical plant in South LA. He told me about them starting to use drones to take readings and do inspections 2 years ago. He still schedules the exact same amount of workers and the exact same amount of maintenance turnarounds 2 years later. surprise. This shite is old old old news.

why am i arguing with a metrosexual youtube star about plant maintenance? when he clearly just read an article about something he knows nothing about and posted it here to talk down to people who make more money than he does and work harder for it.

You're an IT sales guy at a failing company.

Well let's differ to him over the CIO of shell and their investment arm

work harder for it.

Work smart, not hard.

You don't understand the big picture. That's why you are all idiots. This shite doesn't happen overnight, doesn't mean it's not happening.
