It could just be ignorance on my part (I’ve been married for 17 years and I’ve never really “technically dated” anyone other than my wife), but are the “costs” really that much higher today than they’ve been in the past?
It seems like causal sex has become way more normalized and the stigma of women having casual sexual seems to have completely vanished. Living together without being married also no longer seems to carry a stigma so it seems easier than ever to have a live-in sex partner without much commitment.
I just wonder if guys have gotten lazy and/or have forgotten how to actually pursue a woman. Maybe it’s guy’s expectations that have changed on not really anything to do with women?
Again, this is all anecdotal on my part so it could just be that I’m ignorant of the way things work now.

I think guys in general are less able to pursue women, but that's the result of technology.
Technology has brought everyone into the house more with less public interaction.
For both men and women looking for hookups it's easier and much more efficient to go on Tinder rather than play the whole game of meeting and wooing someone.

From a monetary standpoint, I think it does cost a good bit more to date in today's environment. Hell, just hitting a movie with a date and getting some basic concessions will set you back $40 easily, then head out for a bite after the show and you are over $100 for a casual evening. Stay out and have a few cocktails at a nice bar and you can add another $50 to it easily.
As for guys getting lazier or not knowing how to pursue women, I believe you can blame a lot of that on social media. There are a lot of folks out there that have absolutely no clue how to engage people face to face, one on one. Social media has created a whole bunch of folks what are socially awkward.
I also think the proliferation of porn, the availability of it and the stuff you can find on the net have skewed many people's senses to what healthy sexual appetites are. Young boys are going to find porn of the likes guys my age never dreamed of. I think that has actually dulled their senses as to what a healthy sexual appetite consists of. There's a lot of depraved stuff you can see just with a few keystrokes and the internet.

Sign me up. I hate dealing with people already. And I blame that on where society as a whole is heading.
